Off-road ride around local tracks, about 10 miles this time.Following on from last week, this will be an easy paced ride, suitable for gravel bikes (I intend to ride one) with not too much climbing. Starting and finishing at the Lord Nelson car park, lights will be required towards the end of the ride. PLEASE BOOK IN BY 17.30 TUESDAY. |

Report:A delightful early evening ride with Joy. Warm to start, the chill was starting to set in as we finished.It would appear that demand for these rides is very limited. With this in mind, the remaining off-road rides for April will be deleted. I am personally unable to lead most of the May rides. They will remain on the calendar for the time being....feel free to take one! | ||

Description:Weekly 1.5 hour rides at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly. Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. 1.5-2 hour ride at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph)A loop out to the Letcombes and Childrey and back to Grove via Goosey. 16 miles to be taken at a steady 2-star pace (on the flat bits!). A couple of short sharp hills in Letcombe Bassett with the reward of panoramic views before two lovely long descents into the Vale. Forecast is looking good for this one, but LIGHTS will be required for the last few miles. |

Thanks to warnings from Clare and Des, a minor change was made to the route to avoid the 3-way traffic lights and burst water main at the corner of Brereton and Newlands Drives (at least on the outward leg). And so we set off on the pristine tarmac of Main Street before the potholes of Cane Lane to pick up the road into Wantage.With a relatively short time to ride before sunset, we made steady progress before the hills and only stopped to regroup and catch our breathe at the top of Holborn. We then enjoyed the long descents through Childrey and down to the A417. After negotiating the main road in 3s to Goosey, we could relax again in the lanes. From there back to Grove, the hedges were just glorious with blackthorn blossom glistening in the low evening sun. We were back in Grove just as the sun was setting behind us. Great fun! | ||

Riders:Barry StantonChris Bailey Graham Bergdahl James Bosley Jan McCabe Jane John Jo Little Katherine Boyce Matt Adamson Sharon Bedford Simon Atkin Riders = 11 Weather:Report:A glorious summer evening attracted 11 on the ride, so we split into 2 groups, with Kath kindly stepping up to lead the first group.As the second group, we could occassionally see the lights or high vis tops of the first group in the distance, but only caught up with them as they paused to ensure lights were switched on as approached the A420 crossing, where we did the same so maintained the gap. Both groups took the decision to turn left in Gainfield and return via Charney rather than the original planned route via Stanford, only saves a couple of km, but meant that we all returned to Grove just on 8pm, whilst the light was still good. | ||
