Not likely to be very hilly. This may well be a first, a Tuesday 2* ascent of Gramps Hill. After seeing it hyped as an iconic climb in the pre-publicity for the Gravel Cat Adventure Event on YouTube, I thought we should check it out... Short and steep, but at max gradient of 1 in 7 it doesn't warrant an arrow on the OS map, unlike the more familiar icons of White Horse Hill and Blowingstone, or even neighbouring Castle Hill on which we will descend (a great straight on-road descent). To add to the mix, there are several stretches of non-technical bridleway including the metalled track from West Challow to Childrey, a short stretch along the Ridgeway, the NCN544 track to Lockinge and the rougher track from West Lockinge to Ardington. Gravel bikes not required but low gears or Shanks pony. We'll take our time on the climb and enjoy the views from the top. All subject to better weather of course and that the off-road sections have dried out.... If not there are more gentle alternatives. |

The route was flat and we enjoyed going in a different direction for a Tuesday evening - through Charney, over the A420 and then down Buckland Hill before going along the Great Brook, round the villages and then back towards West Hanney and Grove. Thank you for being such a good group of riders and thank you to Eddie for being second leader and to Jane and Yvonne for sweeping. | ||

Riders:Andy CowanFrank Schroer Jason Jones Jerry Bird Peter Cowan Riders = 5 Weather:Report:We were having a good ride, relaying nicely, keeping nice and tight and generally enjoying ourselves when we experienced the most reckless driving I`ve witnessed on a bike, enough said but a clear reminder why I don`t encourage my kids out on the roads.Other than that a success, relatively lumpy, reasonably quick but well within everyone`s range with decent weather thrown in.
