Regular Wantage Ride |
---|
Leader:Steve Bruffell |
Start Time:10:00 am |
Start Location:GMS |
Description: |
||
Report:Many of the group were off eating apples and their by-products, so those of us who turned up had a fast and hard ride to Marlborough. 48 miles in total, with an average speed going of 12.7 mph and 13.6 comming back.Neil set the pace out of Wantage and I managed to catch up with the group at the top of Hackpen Hill, where they all looked comfortable and relaxed. So much for staying behind the leader!! We had great weather for the ride and we enjoyed our lunch at the Bear in Marlborough, the portions were filling and reasonably priced. The beer was excellent. We had arranged to met Richard at the pub, and just as we arrived the Morris Minor passed in front of us, lots of waving and pointing at the pub, but we never saw Richard again. Hope he is ok. The route back took us along the old rail track back to Ogbourne St. George, and back along the bottom of the Downs and we managed tea at the Museum by 4.00 pm. A great time was had by all. Joint Ride with West Oxon Section |

Leader:Kevin Fairs |
Start Time:9:30 am |
Start Location:GMS |
Description:We will meet for coffee at Millets Farm, followed by a joint ride to lunch. |
||
Riders:Kevin FairsLaurent Chambard Mary Weir (dec) Richard Divall Riders = 4 Report:Met the West Oxon Section (Kevin, Des, Derek, Barbara and someone whose name escapes me) at Millets where I resisted a bacon butty and then rode at a reasonable pace (slow for them) to the Red Lion at Castle Eaton, where unfortunately the service was diabolical with over an hour to wait for food. This was in contrast to our visit there in the summer, when despite the place being packed, service was very efficient.Split up after lunch, with the Wantage boys following Des back to Longcott (Des was somewhere in the distance) and then return via Balking. I ended up following the A417 back to Wantage whilst Richard and Laurent did Goosey and Denchworth back to Grove. About 60 miles in all. Kevin P.S. I always thought Mary rode with West Oxon, but Des didnt recognise her,so I've included her in our list. | ||
