Riders:Chris WaltersDavid Bridge Derek Boutle Des Higgs Ginny Henderson Jan McCabe Janet Charleston John Talbot John Tranter Maurice Bawden Neil Mowforth Stephen Quartermain Steve Swanton Tony Smith Riders = 14 Report:The sky looked ominous at the start, but heading off we encountered the first problem, taking a diversion around the roadworks near Goosey. Wind assisted, and passed by two large groups from Norwood Paragon club (Des and Derek seemed up for a race, but I didn't fancy their chances), good time was made up to Lechlade and down the "agricultural" Mill Lane, heading through Gainfield against the wind to Aston for tea, where we chanced upon a couple of Witney members. Maurice Managed to puncture (again!) at Old Shifford, and after fixing it, some folks drifted off to their respective homes on the way back to Grove.

Please bring a snack and drink for the journey. Intended route from Old Mill Hall will head out to Denchworth- West Hanney- Southmoor- Charney Bassett- Lyford- Denchworth- Returning to Old Mill Hall. A little short of 16 miles (25kms) total, but an optional short additional loop via Cow Lane, can be decided on the day !... |
||
Report:Arriving at Old Mill Hall for 1.55pm it did look as though we might be a little thin on numbers. Just father and son team Chris and Alex to accompany me on my lonely scoot around the vale Within minutes though we were joined by Brian and David, and that's sufficient to call ourselves a proper group in my book anyway !...What a nice afternoon it turned out to be. The sun shone and spring had most definitely sprung,with Crocus and Snowdrops providing many colourful splashes along the way. After stopping to watch a train pass under Denchworth bridge, a solitary Muntjac was spotted in the next field observing us from a safe distance. Passing through West Hanney a Red Kite swooped gracefully overhead. Very quiet lanes quickly led us past the Hop sticks and into Southmoor for the return part of our journey, this time accompanied by the sight of Roe Deer (I counted 6) to our left, nervously traversing the field and Hedgerow before scurrying off to safety. Assisted by a gentle breeze we soon arrived home. Young Alex did a great job of group riding, keeping a steady pace, avoiding the many pot holes along the way, and even had reserve energy for a victory circuit of OMH car park at the end. Well done Thanks everyone ! Glen S

Riders:Brian HipwellEdith Hipwell John Talbot John Tranter Maurice Bawden Neil Mowforth Peter Busby Richard Divall Stephen Quartermain Steve Boreham Steve Joyce Riders = 11 Report:Genuine spring weather - warm and sunny with showers though we never really got wet. 11 cyclists headed west out of Grove towards Denchworth, Lyford, Southmoor crossing the bridge over the A420. Heading east back to the Witney-Abingdon road with a good push from the wind.Turning right towards Witney then right again at the pubs through the traffic light going round the back of Standlake and turning left back towards Bampton. Turning left again on the back road to Shifford and Aston. Tea and cakes at the pottery with the view of a good storm out over the Brize Norton area but it never came our way. We headed home back the way we came but heading toward Chimney and up the hill to Buckland, through the village then crossing the A420 back through Charney Bassett, Denchworth and back into Grove. The cyclists were all seasoned riders and we completed 32 miles at a comfortable average speed of 13.5 miles an hour.
