Unfortunately, the roof of the restaurant had been blown off in the gales during the previous week, but they were able to accommodate us in a back room - cosy it was, but a great atmosphere. Thanks to the staff of the Ibex and particularly to Mavis for organising it.Steve S.

Riders:Barry EastwoodDes Higgs Ginny Henderson Ian Murray Matt Chambers Neil Warner Richard Divall Steven Rogers Riders = 8 Report:Thought my rain magnet status was back when the gale driven downpour woke me before the alarm. The well 'ard roadies at Didcot cancelled, "No surprise" I thought observing the obsidian clouds streaming across the downs, sensible chaps. Packed dry socks and poly wrapped everything headed off to town as the skies cleared. Clear they stayed and a very pleasant day was spent pottering through the downs. A pair of serial punctures slowed us near Boxford but we made lunch at the Four Points PH on the edge of Aldworth. A CTC recommended pub with an open fire. I decided that an extra 10K finding a mislaid Richard was a better option, my legs disagreed later on. The elastic having snapped after a hedge stop Richard had dived into Wyld Court Rain Forest for lunch, wish i'd checked it before I got to his last seen point! Post lunch a clatter down the hill to Streatley and then the turn into wind. Less pleasant than the pre prandial wind assisted run we battled through Cholsey and Didcot (Oh how it lifts the heart) Q-Gardens Tea Shop shut at 4pm (Tea time?)in fine UK style and we arrived 2 minutes late. Cow Common won out in the choice of routes by conveniance for half the group so we gamely battled across the prospective reservoir. Had to chuckle at the "No Reservoir Here!" signs in flooded fields looks like Thames water are filling it before it's agreed or dug. Standard Thames Water logistics! The ride dispersed at Hanney with riders splitting for Loncot, Carteton and Hanney, leaving Barry and new man Ian to trundle back to Wantage. Ian rides fixed BTW and is to be kept clear of Pat at all costs, . Thanks to all who rode your company and thanks appreciated, thanks to Ginny for buying lunch while I searched for my mislaid rider and providing tea and food for my furiously cramping limbs at the end.
