Flat roads and tail winds made the going much easier with a wellcome pint at the Coach and Horses pub in Southmore. There the riders were entertained by 2 pub dogs play fighting and children in the bar, perhaps not ideal! Down the Hanney road and arriving back at Grove at 16:30 after 35 miles. | ||

'Easy-rider' Saturday Ride from Grove |
---|
Leader:Diane Stuckey |
Start Time:1:00 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:An easy-paced sociable ride of 45-55 km with tea stop.A 45 km ride through Charney Bassett to Southmoor. Cross the A420 to Longworth and then on to Fernham via Pusey, Hatford and Shellingford. Back through Uffington and up Fawler Hill to Kingston Lisle. Turn on to the B4507 and through Sparsholt and Childrey, down the cycle path to East Challow and back to Wantage for tea at Sainsburys. Apart from Fawler Hill which is not very long the ride is fairly flat. |
||
Report:While waiting to depart from Grove, we suddenly had to take cover when the wind rose and snow started falling. Des convinced us this was a clearing up storm and we finally got under way, with a very strong head wind all the way to Southmoor. After crossing the A420 on the foot bridge, the sun came out and the wind blew us along through Hinton Waldrist and Pusey. A sudden change of weather again at Hatford had us cycling with a strong crosswind and horizontal snow. By the time we had reached Shellingford, the sun came out and the wind had settled slightly. We had quite a pleasant ride back through Uffington, up Fawler Hill and through Kingston Lisle and Sparsholt to Childrey, where we took the path through to Challow. As we reached the path, the wind got up and I heard Des say | ||
