Report:
Something slightly different this evening. Rather than a faster ride Steve led a longer ride with some off-road excursions. Unfortunately heading for Charney Bassett, Steve went one way (via Asti Stud, by accident) while kev took 4 by the direct route. Eventually, re-united the group then split with Angela, Helen, Vicky, Phil & Ian joining Steve for a ride to Duxford while Kevin took the rest for a potter to Southmoor and around.
From Charney, Steve's group took the bridleway through Pusey and then continued on to Hinton Waldrist. There was a certain amount of egging-on to cycle through the ford on the Thames at this point. However, on being faced with the real thing, we all bottled it! Despite the dry spell, the ford was still quite deep and currents quite strong - so perhaps another day...
Having climbed back up the hill to HW, we continued by taking the bridleway through to Longworth Manor and then crossed back over the bridge to Southmoor. Now, the group was faced with its second decision of the evening - Bullockspit Lane and this time we went for it. A bit overgrown in places and very bumpy at the southern end, but despite a few nettle rashes there were broad smiles at the other end. We returned through West Hanney and the track to Grove. Here alas Phil came off (this track is in the roughest conditions I can remember) but not a serious mishap. Back to Millbrook Square at 8:50 after a most enjoyable ride.

Report:
A short introductory ride for bike week.

The group rode to Lockinge via the by-way starting at Larkdown. We then took a bridleway from West Lockinge all the way to the Ridgeway. This was followed by a stretch of the Ridgeway, then down to the road at Wheather Down to Lands End. A section of road including a short climb took us to another bridleway past the dog kennels at Starveall Farm. This track joins to a RUPP connecting Lands End to Beedon. We headed back in the Lands End direction down a very bumpy track that had the arms of those with rigid forks smarting. From here we took a byway (thankfully free of puddles now) to Scutchamer's Knob, to finish the off road riding with a superfast descent down a bridleway crossing Grim's Ditch. From here it was a gentle road ride back to Wantage with one final pass along the Lockinge to Wantage track.

Four riders (Jon, Richard, Liz and myself) set off from Grove at a steady pace to reach Longworth via Windmill Hill, Denchworth and Charney Bassett.

We met several others at the pub, including James and Andrew from City Section, as well as several members of Cyclox, a campaigning group for cyclists in Oxford.

Good food and conversation was had.

Report:
Very damp evening and one leader down meant a short ride with a couple of hills in to keep everyone warm.

Lost a couple of riders whilst heading to Wantage, but found them again only to lose Peter.

Headed up Manor Road and then down Court Hill - lots of frantic spinning and loss of another rider.

Through the Letcombes and up to the Downs Road, cutting across to Denchworth and evnetually back to Grove. Very soggy.

26 riders (4 from Section) on a 'cagoule-on' day with occasional showers and heavy rain after 2:30pm. Superb route through the Cotswolds to Bourton-o-t-water and then on to Broadway where there was an excellent refreshment stop/control manned by Brigitte, Edward & Laurent. The first half was relatively easy with gentle climbs and the wind behind. However, as we feared there followed two tough climbs (with arrows) en route to Chipping Campden and Moreton-i-t-Marsh before a gentler climb up to Kingham. Then back to Witney via Bruern, the Wychwoods, Swinbrook & Minster Lovell.

One ride of 21 miles through the Vale (as nobody apart from Amanda & Jon fancied a sprint up Fawler Hill) at a steady pace. Threatened rain in the West never quite reached us (apart from a few drops near Stanford). Good to see Diane back on her bike after her recent pneumonia. We welcomed newcomers Neil (Jane's partner) and Clive.
