The route and stats for the moderate ride are here: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/284450.

Another lovely route for the moderate riders. Up to Lains Barn and then over the road through Lockinge, East Ginge and West Hendred. Featherbed Lane and Milton Park beckoned with a short dash through Drayton, Steventon and then back throuh East and West Hanney to Denchworth. A few decided to sprint along at certain points, but not too fast a pace with plenty of time for chatting along the way.

Easy rider we had an almost equal split between the two rides tonight easy riders headed out of Grove, Denchworth, West Hanney, past the pig improvement from out on to the old 420 and headed back through Kingston Bagpuize , Southmoor, Longworth, Charney Bassett, Denchworth and home to Grove a very present evening ride enjoyed by all .

Report:
The Windy Ride

The ride set off to to a stiff south wester, and route to Ashbury by way of Kingston Lisle was chosen in an attempt to miss some of the wind (not entirely successfully). Over Ashbury hill, the riders were faced with a strong cross wind down to Lambourn and on to Great Shefford. Despite the wind the ride moved at a good speed headed by the fittest riders. The promise of Pub stop at Boxford failed as it was closed and to add to the disappointment, it then started to rain. Moving out of Boxford and under the M4, the weather improved and for the first time the wind was behind us. Left and on to Leckhampstead Thicket and Brightwalton. Finally on to the B4494 for the fast descent down into Wantage.

On arrival in Wantage at 16:15 to find the alternative tea stop at the museum was closed so a number made for Sainsburys. Overall, a very good ride spoilt by the strong winds.

Report:
The moderate ride rode out on quite a long one this week (45km or 28 miles) - Longworth, Aston, Buckland and Stanford, lead by Alan. While we were fearing a blowy evening, the hedges kept us nicely sheltered and we bowled along nicely at a reasonable but very comfortable pace, chatting and being very sociable! The group kept together quite nicely, slowly losing folks along the way as they peeled off to get their dinners! Really enjoyable ride - thanks neveryone for making it so pleasant!

You can see the route at http://connect.garmin.com/activity/323819.

10 of us rode the leisurely covering 17 miles in a little over 80 minutes. We headed out into the breeze across the vale through Denchworth, Goosey and towards Baulking befroe turning South to climb up into Kingston Lisle. Lee won the laurels as king of the mountains here, while some took the chance to stretch their legs... We continued back through Westcot and Sparsholt to Childrey, keeping up with some (slowish) roadies through the lanes, before dropping down the hill to the main road (A417)and back via Denchworth. With a nice tail-wind we fairly sailed home. Thanks Edith for another enjoyable ride. Steve S.

The moderate ride route is here: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/365935.

A different, but interesting ride for the moderate group this evening. Heading up to Lains Barn and then over the top through Lockinge, East Ginge and West Hendred. Then followed the A417 through to Rowstock and up to Harwell Business Centre. We then swooped down the hill at Chilton to cross the A417 again to West Hagbourne where the local pub seemed to have every motorbike rider in the County in its beer garden! We followed through to Didcot where we had a short pitstop for a flat tyre and then onto Harwell village. We cut across to Q Gardens (always pays to know the route before heading off the front!) and then onto Steventon, Hanneys, Denchworth and home. On the road from Steventon, we set up an interesting rolling peloton with us all taking turns up at the front to get back before dark.

15th Anniversary Regular Wantage Ride
Leader:
Steve Swanton
Start Time:
9:30 am
Start Location:
WMP
Description:
Today we are marking the 15th Anniversary of the first 'Regular Wantage Ride' our traditional all day touring ride, which has been the mainstay of the club's programme over the intervening years. The success of the initial rides, held on the third Sunday of each month, led directly to the formation of the Wantage Section in March 1994.

In the spirit of "Something for Everyone" there will be something of everything and lots of options - so please feel free to join us for all or part of the ride (distances and estimated timings below, if you would like to meet us en route).

We will be heading South over the Downs to Lambourn (8.5 miles, arr. 10:30 picking up at Mavis's) and on down the Lambourn valley to Welford. Following the back lanes we will turn South-West to Chilton Foliat and onto Ramsbury (25 miles, arr. 12:15) for lunch at the Crown & Anchor (grid ref SU278718). We will return to Lambourn (33 miles, arr 14:30) by way of Marridge Hill and Membury, then head out to Ashbury and on to our afternoon tea stop at Uffington village hall (43 miles, arr 15:15). The final stretch will be a flat tour of the Vale back to Wantage via Baulking, Goosey and Denchworth. Total 53 miles return 16:45pm.

There will be an optional easy 2 mile off-road section through the Littlecote Estate before lunch (provided weather stays dry) with shorter or longer road alternatives. As you will see from the timings we won't be rushing - pace will be a mellow, slow moderate - there are two major and several minor climbs and three superb descents.

A warm, sunny wind-free evening saw 25 riders out continuing our record-breaking season of Tuesday rides.

Steve S led the leisurely on a longer than usual loop out to Fyfield and Netherton by way of Denchworth, West Hanney and Fyfield Wick. We maintained a steady pace on the outward leg before turning westwards to Hinton Waldrist, where we took the bridleway back across the A420 into Southmoor. There followed a not so leisurely ride back taking advantage of the slight downhill to sail back via Charney Bassett and Denchworth. Everyone kept up and seemed surprised and pleased to learn that they had come back at a moderate ride pace. Despite this, Edith was voted the harder taskmaster! 18.7 miles in 90 minutes.

John Tranter
Start Time:

This will be a fairly gentle, easy ride of 50km (or 30 miles in old money). Grove to Wantage, out to the Hendreds via Ginge, Steventon, Drayton and a tea stop in Abingdon. Then looping round Gozzard's Ford, Fyfield, Charney Bassett and Denchworth. Some very mild rough stuff at Hendred and no significant hills.

Well, it turned out to be 31 miles (pretty good guess). Beautifully hot and sunny and a great day for a ride. Seven of us turned out for a leisurely stroll around the lanes. Some successful bits of offroad to link between the Hendred's and to cut through from Sutton Courtenay to Abingdon. Good refreshments at Cafe Gia in the centre of Abingdon. Thanks to Richard for finding the secret underpass for the A420 at Fyfield!

The moderate ride consisted of just 6 riders this week (I wonder if those black clouds had anything to do with it?) We ventured to Charney Bassett, Marcham and Tubney at a fairly leisurely pace, then through the underpass to Frilford and then back over the bridge to Kingston Bagpuize, Southmoor, Charney Bassett and Denchworth.

No rain, 23 miles and very pleasant (even if it was a little windy....for some reason I thought the gentlemen of the group would ease the burden and give the female leader a tow for most of the way round....how wrong can you be!)
