Report:
Today was the return of the "Puncture Peloton"! Number one to Chris at Ginge and number two to Bryan just before Aston Tirrold. John joined us at Rowstock and we battled the undulations and wind, fearing that today's West Country storms would find Oxfordshire. Fortunately they didn't. 65km in just over 3 hours elapsed including the two punctures - a good performance considering the conditions.

Report:
Well the weather was against us but we did valiantly. Steve Sanders commented that it was the sort of riding weather where it is hard not to cry! Setting off from the Market Place at 9.30 the sun was shining, with a threatening cloud in the sky but we were hopeful - the hope lasted about 3 miles. At the top of Hackpen Hill, after riding in 20 minutes with torrential rain and winds that bit through to the bones we agreed we would keep going until the cafe at Lambourn and take stock. On reaching the cafe at Lambourn there was a sign saying "We will be closed until Monday 23rd. We apologise for any inconvenience" We made the decision to return to Wantage on the Lambourn to Ashbury road. For a moment cycling in front of Ashdown House it almost seemed like the weather would turn and favour us. It did not last and we just had to gtit our teath, dig in and get back. Back in Wantage a small group of us rewarded ourselves with coffee and toasted tea cakes at Sainsbury's cafe. Before leaving the cafe we thought it only good manners to let the staff know that we had dripped a lot of water on their floor!
Despite the weather we did get out and get a ride in - so that was good.

Saturday 2* ride from Grove 2*
Leader:
Steve Swanton
Start Time:

Start Location:
OMH
Description:
A ride of 45-55km at relaxed pace. The plan is to climb over Hackpen Hill, descend to Lambourn and return via Ashbury or Great Shefford, depending on the prevailing weather. This ride will provide an opportunity to climb some hills at your own pace. Tea stop at the end in Wantage or Grove. Lights required for the journey home from tea.

Report:
9 riders left Grove on a chilly afternoon in Winter sunshine, heading first to the Letcombes before tackling Hackpen Hill. We regrouped at the top and enjoyed the extensive clear views (rather different from the experience of last Sunday, I gather). Having got our breath back, we sped down into Lambourn. As the wind was from the S-W, I chose to head down the Lambourn Valley, through picturesque Eastbury to Great Shefford; we rolled along at a steady pace. By now the sun had gone in and the temperature was falling, but the forecast rain had yet to appear (and we stayed dry to the end).

After a 5 minute stop for refreshments outside the pub in Shefford, we continued on up the A338, turning off towards Woolley, a lovely quiet lane giving a steady climb back up to the Ridgeway. We all enjoyed the descent down Chain Hill and were back in Wantage at a quarter to 4. Three of us stopped for tea at Madison's in Newbury Street while the rest continued to Grove. 27 miles in total.

A warm welcome to Andrew and well done to Steve B, who completed his first hilly ride. Thanks to all for your company.
