Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:GMS |
Description:Regular Tuesday evening ride (this week led by Des) - Aim is to get back before dark (but a good idea to bring lights just in case!) |

Riders:Alan PriceBob Wyatt Brian Hipwell Chris Wyatt Des Higgs Edith Hipwell Geoff Neill Jo Bindloss-Gibb John Tranter Laura Makin Lee Wright Mark Robbins Philip Thornton-Evison Sarah Tranter Stephen Quartermain Steve Swanton Riders = 16 Report:A lovely September evening saw 16 riders out on our penultimate Tuesday ride of the year. Des led us out of Grove at a brisk pace to West Challow via Denchworth and then up Winter lane to the Ashbury road. We cycled into the setting sun as far as Kingston Lisle where the group split with Steve leading a shorter and slower ride back via KL and Goosey while Des continued to the Uffington turn. Both grpoups got back at 8pm just as it was getting dark.Sadly, next week is the last Tueday Evening ride of the season. Do come out to make the last of the summer evenings... Steve S. | ||

Riders:Alan PriceBob Wyatt Brian Hipwell Chris Walters Chris Wyatt Clive Bridgland David Bridge Des Higgs Edith Hipwell Geoff Neill Jo Bindloss-Gibb Laura Makin Lee Wright Mark Robbins Peter Busby Philip Thornton-Evison Richard Page Steve Swanton Riders = 18 Report:Despite dark clouds and a poor forecast, 18 turned up for the last evening ride of the season and we were rewarded with a lovely evening and glorious sunset. Richard leading us for the first time, took us northwards to Southmoor via Lyford and the Hanney Road, back via Charney bassett and Asti Stud. On the way back several riders led a breakaway for a burn, and were followed by most of the group. The sun had set by the time we got back to Grove in just over an hour's cycling. Thanks Richard and a warm welcome to Clive from Lambourn.Steve S | ||

Regular Wantage Ride |
---|
Leader:Ginny Henderson |
Start Time:9:30 am |
Start Location:WMP |
Description:Regular Wantage Ride. A full day ride of 80 to 100km, this will be a cultural visit to Eastleach Martin/Turvile churches (briefly )and to Fairford's 13 century church(longer stop) to admire the world famous medieval stain glass windows . we will take a circuitous route there to get the miles in and return prob via Coleshill, I suggest a picnic lunch to make the most of the time. Those not interested in the church could lunch at the Bull/Plough/ 8 Bells or Railway Hotel/pubs. |

Riders:Barry EastwoodDerek Boutle Des Higgs Ginny Henderson Lee Wright Matt Chambers Neil Warner Nick Dunton Pat Hurt Peter Clayton Richard Divall Richard Page Simon Dales Riders = 13 Report:13 Sept 2006 .Sunday ride from Wantage to Fairford by way of deviations and distractions! We had a good ride out, a nice stop where I gather a good lunch was had by the pub faction and a slightly more tiring ride home when I have to say we weakened and had tea at Uffington . Ride organisers please note that the good ladies of Uffington might make tea for us (or soup) if they know we are definitely coming during the winter if we negotiate with them. We were blessed with lovely weather and fine views .My reason for going to Fairford was to have a chance to see the fabulous stain glass windows in the church, I am sorry to say that despite having 18 riders out only 4 took advantage of the church and picnic option. We rode 57 miles at 13.7 mph, it was great to see Lee Wright who is our youngest rider (15) doing extremely well, rather better than a few more seasoned riders in fact!!Well done Lee. Ginny | ||

Riders:Alan PriceBrian Hipwell Brigitte Hickman Carin Tranter David Bridge Edith Hipwell Ellen Lee Helen Beane Henk Altmann (deceased) James Dawton John Tranter Kevin Hickman Marion Jones Mavis Rose Pat Hurt Rachel Tranter Sarah Tranter Stephen Lee Steve Swanton Riders = 19 Report:This was a thoroughly enjoyable social evening with a good cross-section of folk from the various sections, some 20 in all. After a good meal, a format for the darts was finally selected and names were drawn from an ashtray to give 5 matches of doubles. Apparently we were divided into 2 teams of 10, but nobody knew this until the result was read out the end...It has to be said that the standard of darts was abysmal! Star of the show was Mavis who managed to hit more 20s than anyone else and even hit double 1 to leave herself and Rachel a double top to finish. However, Edith stole the match with a double 17.. A warm welcome to Carin and Rachel (Sarah's twin) who came along with Sarah & John. Hopefully we'll see you on a bike next year too. Steve S | ||
