Tuesday Evening 3* Ride | 3* |

Leader:Adrian West |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours at a riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph). May be hilly. An old favorite!A flat ride out to Steventon, Drayton, Abingdon, Shippon, Gozzards Ford, Tubney and the hidden underpass at the A420, or if we feel up for it a dash down the 420 itself. We then head to Charney Bassett, Denchworth and Grove. Dependent on wind, we might do this route in reverse. We shall see on the night. |

Riders:Adrian WestAlan Gale Chris Walters David Talboys Des Higgs Jane John John Groves Joy Arthur Mike Cooke Nick Dunton Richard Pethybridge Roger Postbeschild Tony Clark Riders = 13 Weather:Report:A great turnout for this ride with some very strong riders.The ride was quick, maybe too quick at stages as the ride leader got a bit carried away. Two thirds of the way round fatigue set in at the front and the ride slowed down to a moderate 3* pace. No incidents apart from a few items leaping off of bikes. We arrived back at OMH well before any of the other groups rolled in. A good solid workout Please see ride link as my Strava recorded me riding to and from home. | ||

We enjoyed an unimpeded ride at 19kph average despite an earlier traffic incident on the A417 (which we cheekily walked around) and a brief stop to sort a recalcitrant crank! Riders:Andy CowanFrank Schroer Jason Jones Nick Fisher Nick Stokell Paul Jarvis Phil Ward Richard Kembleton Riders = 8 Weather:Report:Nine of us left Grove, and headed up Chain Hill. Pete Cowan's pre-ride fettling led to an early finish for him at the top of Chain, in search of a missing cassette spacer; sorry to see him go so early on in the ride.The rest of us headed on towards Great Shefford, where someone seems to have borrowed large chunks of the tarmac; one to avoid until the holes reach the requisite 6cm and are then filled. I'm not holding my breath. On from there to Lambourn, then a quiet gentle climb up to the top of Blowingstone, with some suspicions of mechanical doping directed at Phil - I think the classic frame he was on was making Andy jealous. Heading back from there via Goosey and Denchworth, finishing with the requisite sprint into Grove, prompting some post-ride discussions about the 'real' finish line. Another great Tuesday evening ride, with glorious weather to boot - thanks to everyone who came out. | ||

Tuesday Evening Off-road Ride | 2* |

Leader:Robin Tucker |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Off-road ride around local tracks, usually about 15 miles. Knobbly tyres and good lights required. We are keen to welcome new riders and have spare lights available to borrow if you let me know. Dark, cold and wet - we'll ride in any two. But please let me know if you are coming so I can tell you if I decide to cancel due to really bad weather. |
||
Report:A normal length, but quite quick ride tonight. The three of us (and 2 others) had spent a long weekend riding in the Peak District, so the Ridgeway appeared as a mere pimple.We went out via Crab Hill and Lark Hill, and went up Jolly Green Giant - normally a favourite descent! Then along the Ridge to Ice Hill and up to Scutchamer's Knob. Given the dry weather we decided to finish it off with a visit to Ginge Drop and the bridge of doom, before riding back to Grove. And all back in time not to need our lights, just. | ||

Climbing likely. This 77k ride will take us up Chain Hill and off to West Ilsley, Great Shefford and Lambourn where we'll stop for refreshments before returning to Grove via Ashbury, Goosey and Denchworth. |
||
Report:An enjoyable ride out over the Lambourn downs and back with an unexpected downpour from Lambourn onwards (well done to Chris and Alan for having the foresight to leave the ride at Great Shefford!).Over tea at Lambourn, we decided, by mutual consent to cut the ride short due to the rain and headed up over Hackpen Hill and back to Grove via Wantage. Description:Now in it's 3rd year of running, this popular but tough 100km audax is organised by CTC Wantage. Note the event is run under Audax UK regulations and there is a [small] fee payable if you want to ride. While we will accept entries on the day, it would help enormously if you can pre-enter via the Audax UK website [see link below], and pay via PayPal. That way, you also receive the route description ahead of time and can prepare, and we can ensure there is enough cake at the finish for everyone!See http://www.aukweb.com/events/detail/16-588/ for full details. |

Only four failed to finish – due to a mix of mechanicals, exhaustion and getting lost [no Wantage riders!]. Tremendous thanks to Clan Talbot [for HQ assistance], Chris Walters and Des Higgs [for manning the Marlborough control], Kath for excellent catering, and Richard Pethybridge who rode the event after putting out most of the tables at the start. Chapeau! Feedback from riders was unanimously positive: this event certainly helps us showcase Wantage cycling and some of the best countryside the Vale has to offer. We will be making donations to Thames Valley Air Ambulance and Flexicare from the surplus money. Mark your calendars for 14 May 2017! | ||

Leader:Andy Pixton |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours at a riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph). May be hilly. ***** UPDATE -10/05/2016 12:18 *****Planning to skip the ascent of White Horse Hill, as visibility is poor today, and the descent will be made more tricky with the wet roads. The rest of the ride should be fine. ********************************** A nice hilly one! If you're looking for a recovery ride after the Blowing Stone Audax, or a beautiful view from the top of White Horse Hill, then look no further. We'll take a standard route out to Denchworth and Goosey, then over the A415 towards Baulking, taking the first left up to Kingston Lisle. We'll continue along the spring line road, left, up past Dragon Mound, to the top of White Horse Hill, then pause to enjoy. Having descended the other side, we'll continue down into Woolstone, through Uffington, and back round to Kingston Lisle via Fawler Hill. It's down hill all the way home from here! Through Sparsholt, skirting Childrey, then back to Denchworth along Circourt Road, and home to Grove. |
||
Report:Not the turnout we've been seeing in recent weeks. Nevertheless, Mike and I enjoyed a pleasant chatty ride, through grey drizzle, punctuated occasionally with heavy rain. White Horse Hill was buried in cloud, as we continued along the spring line road, ignoring it for a reprise of the ride later in the summer. Hopefully the other rides worked out ok too. Those stay-aways don't know what they were missing. | ||

Leader:Phil Ward |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5-2 hours ride at a riding pace of 25-29km/h (16-18mph). May be hilly. UPDATED Mon 9th: - weather related:A ride of two halves: a pan flat opening to settle us into a useful rhythm, switching to undulations comprising three short climbs at Steventon, Upton & West Hendred, each of which is followed by gentle downslopes, the last of which should give us a glorious early-summer sun-drenched scenic finale through the Lockinges BUT it's currently forecast to rain - possibly a lot ! If its really grim we can cut loops out (early &/or late in the ride) to achieve a sensible outcome. Sunset shouldn't be a problem by now, but FRONT & REAR lights are required for gloomy/overcast/wet evenings. Oh, and mudguards might be a nice touch for the folks behind you #vainhope? |
||
Riders:Andy CowanPaul Jarvis Phil Ward Ruth Fisher Riders = 4 Weather:Report:A grim and threatening sky greeted the plucky four. Temperatures were uncharacteristically high and didn't drop much towards dusk, giving humidity to the evening. Lights were deployed pretty much from the outset and we settled into a steady clip around the flatlands of the Vale. Steventon Hill provided a first test, enlivened with groups of DPCC-organised Australian Pursuiters passing in the opposite direction every minute or so. Harwell Village was negotiated in the dry and we turned at our furthest East point at Upton to climb the easier grade of Chilton Road to emerge atop Hagbourne Hill at a good pace. Further roadworks were negotiated at the Chilton Junction in drizzle, which set in for the evening passing Diamond Light Source. The A417 proved busy even at this late hour and it was good to turn off towards Ginge even though the roads were awash with gritty puddles. Ardington looked majestic even in the gloaming and we ended up in Grove around 8:15 with a good ride averaging a touch under 29kph in our legs, pleased we had persisted in less than ideal conditions. Kudos to Ruth, riding her first 4* with panache. Hoping more ladies will give it a go as the season progresses - we really don't bite | ||

A slightly longer but flat ride around the vale this evening, heading to Charney Bassett with its pretty village green and returning via Ock Bridge and Lyford, a round trip of about 12 miles. |
||
Report:After the rain during the day and the gloomy threatening low clouds over Grove as 6:30 approached, it was an unexpected and pleasant surprise to find 5 takers for the 1* ride including two newcomers. It was very soon a wet welcome for Barry and Sheena as we set off into what proved to be a fortunately brief shower. Cotswold Special | 3* |
---|
Leader:Nick Stokell |
Start Time:9:00 am |
Start Location:Cotswold Gateway Visitor Centre, S Cerney GL7 5TL |
Description:80-100km (50-65 miles) all-day touring ride, lunch and tea stop en route, at a riding pace of 18-22km/h (11-14mph). Includes some steepish climbs and is not suitable for irregular riders.This is a figure of eight ride from Cotswold Water Park to Winchcombe and back, mostly on quiet country lanes, with some great views (weather permitting). There are some steep hills around Compton Abdale, Chedworth and out of Winchcombe (though nothing more difficult than Blowingstone Hill) so please be confident of your climbing abilities before joining this ride. This is one of those rides where RwGPS subtracts c 200 m as it reduces the number of data points! Meeting place is the Cotswold Water Park visitor centre at South Cerney with free parking, toilets and café. After working our way through Cirencester we have a flattish stretch Northwards to Chedworth, then the views arrive, but at the price of some sharp climbs and descents into and out of Compton Abdale. Easier terrain on the plateau leads into the descent down to the Hayles Farm Café for an earlyish lunch at 43 km (option of off-road section onto part of the Winchcombe Way depending on ground conditions, time and group wishes). The café is in a lovely location but it will be a stop of quite civilised length going by past experience of the speed of service! After lunch the going is gentle until the North end of Winchcombe where the road rises steeply towards Charlton Abbotts. Once this is conquered there are again fine Cotswold views to the East and a fast run down to Withington and one last big climb up to Chedworth, where we will stop for a tea break (big cakes!) at Denfurlong Farm Garden Centre (70 km). From there it’s a gentle 25 km canter down the lanes back to the start. Usual 3* touring pace (11-14 mph) with re-grouping at the top of hills. Please let me know (text on 07582483315, or email on nicknpbmd@aol.com) by end of Wednesday 11 May if you intend to ride so that I can give the lunch café some idea of numbers. |
||
Riders:Chris WaltersDavid Smith Hugh Falkner Jonty Ward Nick Stokell Pam Stokell Phil Ward Ursula Hallam Riders = 8 Weather:Report:A great day out!Eight of us successfully negotiated Cirencester then headed North along the White Way with a slightly chilly head wind, but plenty of sunshine. Hugh’s puncture was quickly fixed and we hit the hilly bits after Chedworth which everyone coped with well, including Phil with a lowest gear of 39 x 23 (estimated - please correct me!). The Cotswold landscape was at its best, with far reaching views in every direction. As we were ahead of schedule I proposed a detour through Hawling and Guiting Power to be followed by a beautiful though lumpy off-road section along the Diamond and Winchcombe Ways, which brought us out on the North-facing escarpment with fine views towards the Malverns. A glorious descent of Salter’s Hill, taking care to avoid the sheep, brought us to Hayles Farm at 1155, where we were soon joined by Ursula who had preferred to stick with the road. As I had warned that the food might take a while it did of course turn up remarkably quickly! The afternoon was pleasantly warm and after a short section of main road into Winchcombe we were back on country roads for the ascent back onto the plateau and the roller coaster ride South to Andoversford. The long climb through Withington Woods came as a bit of a shock to some of us but we soon arrived at Denfurlong Farm Café for cakes, ice cream and tea in the sun – it was quiet when we were there but apparently they had had an army of cyclists in the morning. Slightly reluctantly we re-mounted our bikes, but with the gradient and wind on our side the last leg through the Barnsley Estate and back to South Cerney (1607) was over in a flash. Thank you to everyone for making it such a lovely ride to lead. Well worth repeating in the future. | ||

Off-road Afternoon Ride | 2* |
---|
Leader:Robin Tucker |
Start Time:1:30 pm |
Start Location:Wallingford Market Place |
Description:Twice monthly off-road ride for those who like their rides bumpy and (sometimes) muddy. These will be on the second Saturday afternoons and 4th Sunday mornings.The rides will be about 20 miles, mostly off-road, and aim to finish in time for a late lunch (whether together or heading for home). We adjust the ride to suit the riders and the weather, but in general the terrain will be rough, so a mountain-bike in good condition and with knobbly tyres is recommended. Cliff Bellis will lead this ride (contact 07815 013506), and it will be 20 miles at a gentle pace and not difficult terrain. There are just a couple of climbs: up Woodway Rd out of Blewbury and a shorter off road climb on the Ridgeway. There's the option to take a short cut back to Cholsey along the Fairmile. Barring a significant dry spell the route will be muddy in places. |
||
Report:4 riders, but only me from the Wantage list.We rode from Wallingford out to Aston Tirrold, then Blewbury and up to the Ridgeway. After a snack stop overlooking a valley, we headed down to Streatley and thought the Stokes back to Wallingford. A very pleasant afternoon ride. | ||

Regular Wantage Ride | 3* |

Leader:Adrian West |
Start Time:9:30 am |
Start Location:WMP |
Description:Monthly 80-100km (50-65 miles) all-day touring ride, lunch and possibly tea stop en route, at a riding pace of 18-22km/h (11-14mph). Not suitable for irregular riders. Climbing almost inevitable. This ride was very popular last year and is perfect for those who enjoy exploring far off pretty villages without the route being too hilly.This will be a leisurely fun and enjoyable ride for regular 2* and 3* riders, bear in mind it will be around 100km. It will be ridden at a 2* pace and is only designated 3* due to distance. I will need to book a table for lunch at an eatery in Bibury so if you intend on coming please let me know as soon as possible. There are a few venues in close proximity to each other if you wish to explore and forage when you get there and not have a pub lunch. Route: Wantage Market Place out to Uffington via the A417 , then on to Fernham, Shrivenham (tea stop if needed), Stanton Fitzwarren, Marston Meysey Meysey Hampton, and lunch at the pretty Cotswold village of Bibury. (We will be missing out the busy parts of the A417 at Lechlade and Fairford that we did last year) I intend on booking lunch at the Catherine Wheel Pub but there are other food options nearby in the village if you prefer. Once refueled we head through the village to Coln St Aldwyn, Southrop, Broughton Poggs, Bampton (tea stop at Bampton Garden Centre if we have time) Buckland, Charney Bassett, Denchworth, Wantage Market Place. Expect to be back in Wantage late afternoon. THIS WILL NOT BE A HARD RIDE, BUT IT WILL BE A LONG RIDE TAKEN AT A LEISURELY PACE . |

Riders:Adrian WestBryony Stott David Yearley Des Higgs John Tranter Karl Blake Lyn Taylor Mike Bailey Mila Yearley Richard Ashford Steve Swanton Tony Clark Riders = 12 Weather:Report:The Bibury Beast! (as named by our chairman)A beautiful day, a great bunch of riders and a great days cycling. 12 of us left WMP and traversed the Vale at a good pace. We abandoned the idea of having a morning tea stop in favor of getting to Bibury earlier as we were expecting delays when we got there. There were no incidents and everything went smoothly on the outbound leg apart from a little bit of excitement with a fallen tree blocking the road at Castle Eaton. Once at Bibury and at the pub we were expecting long delays but as luck would have it we were served in record time, some of us getting their food as they just sat down at their table. Now that's good service! The food was fantastic, we shall have to go there again! When we finished our main course we all rode into the village for the finest desert in Bibury - Mr Whippy ice cream. After the sights and delights of Bibury we continued on with our next leg of the journey taking in the fine villages of the Coln valley and Cotswolds. We made it to the cafe at Bampton Garden Centre in good time and enjoyed epic refreshments in fantastic new surroundings, a regular tea stop for many a ride in the future methinks. Des and John left the ride at the tea stop leaving the rest of us to travel on familiar roads to Grove where a good portion of the group left the rest of us to ride back to Wantage. A great touring ride! Unfamiliar roads and destinations, good food and company all taken at a pleasant and enjoyable pace. I don't think anyone was fatigued much by the end and some of us may have even put on weight! Perfect! | ||

Leader:Karen Townsin |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. Tonight's route will take in the well surfaced traffic free route 544 and the quiet lanes around Lockinge and Ardington. We return to Grove via Lains Barn.There are some uphill sections, but nothing too steep. As usual we will take these at our own pace and allow plenty of time for re-grouping. |

Riders:Ellie GouldingJoshua King Karen Townsin Larry King Lorna Swanton Naomi Merritt Sarah Dore Steve Boreham Riders = 8 Weather:Report:A brisk wind and threatening skies didn't deter us as we set off through Grove and onto the NCN 544. The roads through Lockinge and Ardington were quiet though unfortunately, the only car we met was just as we needed to use the whole of the road to make a sharp, uphill left turn. Strangely Josh was the only one who wanted to turn back down the hill and have another go!The descent past Laines Barn was delightful and we returned to OMH without Ian needing the waterproof he hadn't brought . Thanks all for a lovely ride. | ||

But please let me know if you are coming so I can tell you if I decide to cancel due to really bad weather. |
||
Report:A lovely evening saw us brimming with energy, but little did we (me mostly) know what disaster awaited!We set off, as we often do, over Crab Hill and via Goddards Brook up to the Ridgeway. Then over the back to World's End and up again still heading south. In the woods, we passed the last of the fading bluebells. Then we twisted and turned down 'Twisty Gnarly' track, between the motorbike ruts. An excellent section! Then up to the Ridgeway again and finally turning back West. We went down Ginge descent, making all use of the twisty bits on the side. A bit too much actually as Richard A picked up a puncture. But is was a good run down. Then, as we closed in on Wantage, I clipped my bars on a tree stump and went flying, in the wrong way. Fortunately, my landing was soft. Unfortunately, it involved lots of nettles - ouch! Even worse, my front wheel was totally pringled (is that a verb in the OED yet?) So I had to hold the front up while pushing the bike to Wantage, while John rode ahead and got his car to reduce me (thanks John!) I'm still smiling after a great ride, although the bike shop haven't told me how much for a new wheel yet! (and hopefully nothing else on the bike is bent or broken). | ||

Easy Saturday Afternoon Ride from Grove | 1* |

Leader:Nick Portsmouth |
Start Time:2:00 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Monthly 16-32km (10-20 miles) family and social afternoon rides, usually with a tea stop, at a riding pace of 13-16km/h (8-10mph). Occasional short or gentle climbs. For my first ride as leader, we'll travel along the cycle path between Grove and Wantage, passing through Charlton before joining Route 544. We'll then follow this route through Lockinge and Ginge, and on to East Hendred. Please note that at Ginge, we'll be travelling along a farm track which is quite potholed in places and so particular care should taken. I've not ridden it on a road bike but I've not heard of anyone having any puncture problems.After passing through East Hendred, we'll travel along a short part of the A417 before turning onto Featherbed Lane and our tea stop at Q Gardens Tea Room at Milton Hill. Our return to Grove will then take us down Steventon Hill, and on to East & West Hanney and finally Denchworth. |
||
Riders:Karl BlakeLouise Moggach Maeve Moggach Marielle Moggach Martin Hook Nick Portsmouth Sarah Dore Steve Boreham Steve Swanton Riders = 9 Weather:Report:We were pleased when we set off from the OMH that the forecast torrential rain had failed to appear and with Marielle & Maeve looking cosy in their buggy, we headed off to Denchworth. Following Steve Swanton's advice we travelled in the opposite direction to the advertised route so that the wind was behind us as we cycled across Cow Common. After we'd climbed Steventon Hill (a first for Sarah), we arrived at the Q Gardens tea shop, amazingly without having encountered any rain. All that changed as we got under cover just as the heavens opened. The service at the tea stop was very efficient and we were soon off again along Featherbed Lane. We had a wet second half of the ride back to Grove and when we arrived back, we all agreed that we'd had a very enjoyable afternoon. | ||

Description:The idea behind this mini series of rides (one in June, one in July) is to provide confident 2* riders with a taste of 3* routes and riding.We will ride the route of a 3* Tuesday evening ride, one incorporating hill(s), but riding at the bottom of the 3* pace range. We'll then stop for a coffee and a chat at the end of the ride. *PLEASE NOTE CHANGE IN START VENUE - NOW WMP* Today we will repeat a 3* ride from earlier this season riding up Hackpen Hill and then back into the Vale via Seven Barrows. We welcomed Jo Little who I had met yesterday on an excellent Bike Maintenance course in Wantage and were waved off in the market Place by our chairman.We headed out of Wantage and through the Letcombes, all ascending Hackpen hill successfully, with a short pause at the top. The descent of Blowing Stone hill was tackled sensibly and with due respect given recent events and the second half of the ride through the Vale was a breeze. We said goodbye to Richard in Grove and Olivia in Wantage and the remaining group headed to the Bay Tree Cafe for tea/coffee and cake. A really great group to lead. Start Time:10:00 am |
Start Location:Top of Gramps Hill, above Letcombe B, GR 370 840 |
Description:Twice monthly off-road ride for those who like their rides bumpy and (sometimes) muddy. These will be on the second Saturday afternoons and 4th Sunday mornings.The rides will be about 20 miles, mostly off-road, and aim to finish in time for a late lunch (whether together or heading for home). We adjust the ride to suit the riders and the weather, but in general the terrain will be rough, so a mountain-bike in good condition and with knobbly tyres is recommended. Meet at top of Gramps Hill, but if you are arriving by car I suggest you park at the top of Hackpen Hill (Grid Ref 343851) then ride East along Ridgeway to the start. 22 mile loop with fine views, with plenty of climbing (400 m) but nothing too technical. Please arrive 15 minutes before the start: i.e. by 7:45am.If you plan to come, please email secretary@ctcoxfordshire.org.uk to let me know to help with group and refreshment planning. The ride will start at Islip Village Hall bright and early at 8am. There is sufficient car parking at the hall, but we won't have access to the hall - so please don't hydrate too much before the ride We'll stop for coffee & cake in the morning, at The Milk Shed, Weston-on-the-Green. Lunch will be at the Woodman Inn at North Leigh. Tea will be at Robin's house in Steventon - thus avoiding the difficutly of finding somewhere open 4pm on a Sunday! We'll return to Islip probably between 6 and 7pm. In previous years we have had over 20 people for this ride, and split in to 2 groups. So if you are coming and would be happy to lead or sweep a group, please let me know. |

We will head out around Wantage to the Letcombes and then tackle the ascent up to the Ridgeway on Hackpen Hill. Don't worry - everyone will go at their own pace and we will re-group for a breather at the top. Your reward will be a huge sense of achievement, great views and a lovely swoop down to Sparsholt. Report:The weather was kind to us, and was equally kind in the build up to this ride. The trails were mostly very dry, with only the occasional puddle. These were easily avoided.We started up Crab Hill, as usual, to get us to Wantage. From there we took the bridle path off Lark Hill to West Lockinge, and then climbed to The Ridgeway via the Betterton Corkscrew. From there we went straight over the top, for the gentle descent to the Copperage Road, before climbing up the Old Street track. We cut across the bridle path heading east and picked up the next gentle climb back to The Ridgeway at Scuthamer Knob. From there, the headwind helped us to travel westwards along The Ridgeway past Baron Wantage's monument, before taking the Jolly Green Giant descent and Goddard's Brook descent back to Lockinge and then to Wantage and Grove. | ||

Description:Monthly 45-55km (30-40 miles) afternoon ride, with a tea stop, at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly. Might be a struggle for new or irregular riders in winter months. This 2 star ride starts out through Denchworth and works its way to Childrey before tackling Hackpen Hill, but from the Sparsholt side for a change. From there, we descend into Lambourn and along the valley road into Great Shefford and left for a short stretch of A338. Then it's up Buckham Hill and through Leckhampstead and Brightwalton before a well earned stop for refreshments at Saddleback Farm shop. All in all a ride of about 54 kilometres with two manageable climbs - which we will take at a steady pace and regroup at the top.Please let me know by text on 07780 676051 if you plan to come so I can alert the farm shop regarding numbers. |

It was raining - A lot! It was decided to abandon the 1* and 3* rides and combine all of them into a very brief 2* ride before the social evening at the Fox at Denchworth. IT RAINED SOME MORE as we left OMH and ventured out towards Lyford. At Denchworth we decided to make the route shorter, but eventually the ride leader decided to cut the route even more heading through Charney and back to Denchworth. Many of us were prepared for the rain but the cold wind was chilling and many of us were shivering heavily as we entered soggily the safe haven of the Fox. Some still continued to shiver in wet clothes as we waited for food and drink to arrive. Even with the biblical weather, cold, wet and brief evening of cycling, the group were in very high spirits and we thoroughly enjoyed the social evening at the Fox. Joined by the Off roaders we huddled around tables like rugged fishermen telling stories of epic rides, mechanicals and monsters encountered on rides. A great night from the start A massive well done to all that rode out with us and braved the rain. The ride was very short, but it was epic! Report:A wet one tonight. Both rainwater and beer!It was tipping down as we assembled in Grove and left down the canal route. We decided on just a short one, so rode through Sparsholt and up Sparsholt Field to make the necessary pilgrimage to the Ridgeway. Then we turned 180 degrees and back down the hill, a little cautiously on the wet surface, but splashing through the puddles with no thought to our drivetrains and suspension bearings! We then hit the road to The Fox, and met up with the equally damp road riding crew. It is surely the mark of a great cycling group that well over a dozen people turned up to ride on a wet night! | ||
