Report:
It was good to see a nice balance of new faces and regular riders turnout for our welcome ride.

Setting off in lovely sunshine with Edith as sweep, we very soon reached Denchworth and Lyford. The countryside is still gloriously lush and colourful, quite unusual this late into the summer. I think the very wet August has helped to preserve things a little longer.

Wen, Kevin, and Tom decided to ride as far as the crossroads north of West Hanney and then return home. Tom did a brilliant job riding with the group, and maintaining a good steady pace.

The A338 from Garford was quite busy as usual, but fortunately the tea stop was a short distance and we arrived there in no time at all. Choice for Sunday tea stops especially on shorter rides is a bit limited to be honest, and Millets farm does get busy and is a bit expensive. Still it served it's purpose well, and we were soon suitably refreshed and heading off on the homeward journey. After the short stretch of A415 we were soon back on quiet lanes taking in Fyfield Wick, Charney Bassett, and arriving back to Old Mill Hall for about 4.30 pm.

As a footnote- This ride was the longest distance ever cycled by several members of the group. A fantastic achievement. Well done to all !....

Thanks everyone for a very pleasant afternoons cycling !

A great ride of a total of 114km/72miles. The sun was shining and it was a great ride through some lovely wiltshire countryside. We spotted 3 of the white horses carved into the hillside - none as grand as our own Vale White Horse. We had the usual stop to mend a puncture, lunch and a photo stop. The photo stop was inspired by the field of traditional "hay stacks"

A great day ended with a drink at the Pewsey Wharf Bistro.

Report:
The 3* ride was a fun ride doing the "Seven Barrows loop". Maurice was particularly pleased with the chosen route as it meant he could do some hills! From Grove we headed up to Letcombe and the first "little" hill saw the tough ones going a pelter up the hill -a warm up to the climb up Hackpen Hill. David enjoyed Hackpen hill so much that he went back down so he could climb again. The best thing about getting up the top of a hill is you have to come down and the stunning views. The Lambourn Valley was at its best and all too soon we had to turn right and ride up the seven barrows road to the top of Blowingstone Hill. A variety of tactics were taken on the descent (brakes on all the way down for some)but we all got safetly to the bottom. From there we headed back to Grove via Goosey. It's what cycling is all about - a great group and a great route.

Park Lane and Goosey. This evening we shall stay in the Vale, going the longer way round to Park Lane from Denchworth and returning via Goosey and Asti stud. There will be a mile or so's stretch along the A417 and an optional extra to be decided on the night...

Welcome to Paula, who joined a select group of 3 for this evenings ride. We followed the route as planned with a short stop by the church at Goosey, to enjoy the green from another angle. With low late evening sunshine, there were fantastically long shadows running ahead of us as we cycled back to Denchworth. The optional extra was a mile and back to the top of the railway bridge by Circourt Farm to enjoy the wonderfully clear view across the Vale and along the Downs. Another great evening to be out on the bike.

10 cyclists set out for a sunny Saturday afternoon ride to Aston Pottery. We made good time with the wind behind us and decided to do an extra loop around Standlake village. We enjoyed our tea and cakes at the pottery. On the return ride, one of our cyclists got a punture in his back wheel, which delayed us for about 20 minute. There were a few spots of rain which made us head off very quickly up the hill to Buckland keeping the rain behind us we headed for home completing 34 miles approx. The ride was enjoyed by all with no mishaps.

3* ride (after a safety briefing!) followed the "Fast and Furious" route, planning to miss out the Shrivenham loop. When we got to Longcot, we decided to include the loop after all! Well done to Elaine and Andy who kept up with the pace!

2* Brian and Edith almost never went at 6.00pm it was pouring with rain in Wantage. we put off leaving for Grove until 6.25 when the sun came out and blue sky appeared all over Wantage. We made a mad dash for Grove only to find that not a drop of rain had fallen there . We had 4 cyclist and did a fairly fast circuit out to Denchworth, Challow Station, climbed the Lambourn road as far as the Sparshot junction turning right for Westcott, kingston Lisle, through the village down common hill. back to Grove via Goosey and Denchworth. Well done to Steve B who managed the pce exceptionly well and with no breakdowns. I have marked this date in my diary.

Off road ride 3* 3*
Leader:

Start Time:

Description:
Bumper hilly 38km (24miles)ride. Up on to Ridgeway at Monument, then along to A34 before turning right across country. Between the Ilsleys taking Furze lane to Farnborough. Down Chain gang hill taking left track to A338 and into Wantage. I rode round it on Saturday 22nd and found it very dry with a ride time of 2hrs 40 mins. Tea stop at Sainsburys. Mountain bikes or Hybrids with helmets advisable.

Report:
Geoff certainly organised a fine route and some fine weather to boot. Some good climbing onto the Ridgeway and then a little descent down to the road between the Ilsleys was followed by a fantastic climb up through a wooded tunnel. A few nettle stings later, we came out at Catmore, and then up to Farnborough for a descent in the meadow at "Scary Hill", which Sorrel found out wasn't so scary any more. Tea at Sorrel's ended a great ride!

The ride route can be found here: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/12153178

Thanks Chris for that glowing report and I'm pleased that all riders enjoyed it.
