A superb turn out for this ride, a total of eighteen riders!
Welcome to Philip Blampied on his first half day ride with the club. We decided to split the ride into two groups for safety purposes. Jane kindly offered to lead the second group, with Jon T & Roger sweeping. Thanks guys for all your help. The roads between Grove & Aston were fairly quiet. Unfortunately Sharon had a small tumble & was unable to complete the ride, thankfully Sharon is ok!! Thanks to Kath for looking after Sharon, much appreciated!

Aston Pottery was a welcome sight, we all enjoyed a hot drink & some delicious cakes. On the second half of the ride,
Janes Garmin didn't want to work, thanks to Susie for her help with route guidance for Jane, further en route Janes Garmin decided to behave! We had a strong nagging head wind on our return journey, which made it hard cycling. As we left Littleworth we had a small stretch of the A420 to cycle along, which was simply executed in groups of three, with out incident! From Denchworth, Nick left us too head back home, while the rest of us headed for Grove arriving at 13:20hrs.

May I say what a friendly & well disciplined group you all were(clap) I look forward too riding with you all on future rides! Thanks Guys;)

Report:
We set off in sunshine following the planned route up and down hills to Lamborn. Then a loop down to Eastbury, up to Baydon and back to Lamborn for much needed coffee and cake. Steve joined us there and sadly the rain arrived at the same time. It was pouring when we left so we decided to change the route and return via Hackpen and Grove as quickly as possible. So the ride was about 6 miles shorter than planned. Thanks to everyone for their good humor and company!

Saturday Off Road Ride 2*
Leader:
Start Time:
10:00 am
Start Location:
Wantage Market Place
Description:
Off-road ride for those who like their rides bumpy and (sometimes) muddy on second Saturday mornings. The rides will be about 20 miles, mostly off-road, and aim to finish in time for a late lunch (whether together or heading for home). We adjust the ride to suit the riders and the weather, but in general the terrain will be rough, so a mountain-bike in good condition and with knobbly tyres is recommended.

Cycling gymnastics at its finest, a dozen of us negotiated a set of re-balancing routines aimed at stabilising the 5 point base from which we interact with our bicycles. Spin ups and a pyramid provided a framework within which to test new found techniques to lay down some serious work efficiently and provided some VO2 stimulus. Great efforts and application folks - rest up well (clap)

A ride to Burford, hilly in the morning, with a flatish ride home (well it is if you don't count the hills to Minster Lovell and up to Buckland!). There are plenty of places for cut-offs if the weather turns inclement.

We'll just have a stop for lunch - we need the light at this time of year - probably in Lynwoods, Burford, so you'll need to bring snacks along as lunch will be over half way.

Don't forget to bring lights, just in case :)

There'll be less than half a dozen on a November all day ride I thought - was I wrong :o The sun brought the numbers out!

We had a very slow start, ten to 11 and we still weren't at Faringdon. A couple of mechanicals caused delays, do think we should create a club position of bike mechanic extraordinaire just for Karl ;). Then we had the glorious swoop down the wide road to Lechlade and we started to make up some time. I started to relax too soon - there had been a very bad accident in the lanes west of Lechlade and some cyclists advised us to deviate as nothing could get through ahead. As if by magic, the Royal Navy navigator on the ride (who didn't have the route on his GPS), worked out where we needed to go :). Think if we have a club mechanic, we should also have club navigator role for Richard as well ;).

The hills got shorter and steeper and we knew we were in the Cotswolds, the Windrush Valley didn't fail to delight and then we were in Burford. An extremely busy Burford, Hufkins allowed us to use their courtyard and we sat outside and ate lunch. Would have been slightly better if the sun had reached the courtyard but no one complained and it made for a short lunch.

The penultimate hill coming out of Minster Lovell was quickly summitted and before we knew it, we were back on familiar territory and home before tea. Thank you to everyone that contributed to such a great ride, makes leading a piece of cake with a group like you :)

A leisurely ride out to Farmer Gows and back, it was a dull November afternoon, but the morning's rain had disappeared and it wasn't too cold.
A gentle paced ride, with just one hill, we arrived at Farmer Gow's just as the kids birthday party group was leaving, the refreshements here are limited (hot drinks and a few pre packed cakes to choose from), but its conveniently placed and seldom busy, so met our requirements.
After Tea Des and Karl left us, and the rest of us continued through Shellingford, Gainfield and Charney to retrn to Grove around 3:30pm
