Riders:Angela Douglas (dec)Chris Walters David Bridge Derek Boutle Des Higgs Ginny Henderson Glen Savegar Henk Altmann (deceased) Jan McCabe Jo Bindloss-Gibb Kathrin Reuther Kevin Fairs Mavis Rose Philip Thornton-Evison Richard Divall Sid Liddiard Stephen Quartermain Steve Swanton Sue King Wenfeng Yang Riders = 20 Report:The ride followed the planned route (above), with an excellent turn out with 21 riders, including newcomer Kathrin.Shortly after we left Grove it started raining, and by the time we got to the far end of Lain's barn most of us had stopped to put waterproofs on, this did the trick, causing the rain to stop shortly afterwards and stay dry for the rest of the ride. We just about filled the conservatory at Q Gardens, but all got served in reasonable time with our drinks and cakes, other cyclists get arriving, turned out the tea room was also being used as a stop on a 200k Audax - hope we hadn't eaten all of the cakes! Arrived back in Grove just before lights were needed Jan | ||

Start Location: |
Description:DA AGM at Hinton Waldrist Village Hall, followed by a presentation by Rosie on her charity ride in Vietnam last year. |

Riders:Brian HipwellEdith Hipwell Jan McCabe Mavis Rose Pat Hurt Stephen Quartermain Steve Swanton Sue King Riders = 8 Report:James led proceedings in Eve's absence, about 20 attending (with Wantage members on left). We welcomed Mick Simmonds from Reading one of our CTC Councillors. Business was covered briskly and a new committee was elected consisting of: Eve T (Secretary & Registrar), Steve Q (Treasurer), Helen B (Minute Taker), Section Reps: John B (Midweek), James D (City), Brian H (Wantage), Brigitte H (West Oxon). Sue, Jan and Rick volunteered to stand as ordinary members. Publcity Officer role was left vacant for the 2nd year running.James gave a resume of the CTC Council's consulation paper on Local Groups which includes the very welcome proposal that members will be able to select which group they belong to (rather than being based on residence alone). The new committee will decide on their response at their first meeting. Any views from Wantage members to Brian please asap. Business done, we had a sociable picnic lunch with some excellent cakes (thanks to Mavis, Sue & Edith). Sadly, despite even Steve L's best efforts Rosie's laptop and digital projector would'nt talk to each other, so the "slide show" will have to be delayed to another day. Possibly a slide evening in Wantage?? This did mean that we got away early to ride home in the afternoon sunshine. Steve S | ||

But we could see a strip of blue to the north and by the time we reached Fyfield we were beneath blue sky and the sun started to break through the cloud.Back afterwards in lovely Autumn sunshine through Pusey and Stanford. Regular Wantage Ride |
---|

Start Time:10:00 am |
Start Location:WMP |
Description:A full day ride of 80 to 100km, including a pub stop for lunch |
||
Riders:Barry EastwoodDerek Boutle Des Higgs Jan McCabe Kevin Fairs Mavis Rose Pat Hurt Peter Clayton Richard Divall Steve Bruffell Steve Swanton Sue King Wenfeng Yang Riders = 13 Report:A fabulous frosty morning saw 13 of us emerging from the fog, to meet in Wantage, from where Des led us out along the downs road, up the hill at Hinton Parva to Wanborough, then took us along some cycleways to skirt the edge of Swindon, and back onto quiet lanes, by this time the fog had lifted and the sun was out, but Kevin managed to find an icy patch to skid on, the recovery was amazing, I'm not sure how he managed to stay on! We continued to the lunch stop at Watchfield, for a moment I though we were turning into McDonalds, but then I realised there was a pub next door. I wasn't able to stay for lunch, so continued home..... hope the group enjoyed the rest of the ride... feel free to add extra comments!Jan Following a good lunch in the warmth of the Cottage farm Inn, Des led 10 of us in a circle through Shrivenham and back up the hill towards Highworth where we turned left for Coleshill. From the sunshine in the Vale we descended into mist again in the Cole valley (chilly!). Peter's chain broke as we climbed Coleshill, but as I had a chain tool and Peter a replacement link, he managed to fix it pretty quickly. Strangely, us mechanics were enveloped in mist on the hill while the rest waited above in sunshine outside the Radnor Arms. Later saw lovely mist lying amid the trees below Badbury Hill. We returned through the Coxwells, Fernham and Baulking in sunshine but then back into thick mist for the final few miles back to Grove and Wantage. Steve S | ||
