A fantastic ride - followed the route as per the description, following a wild goose chase for cream teas in Appleton, but settling on tea at the Pendon Museum in Long Wittenham, a really welcoming stop, if a little limited on the cake front!

The weather was fantastic, and the group was really well-matched for pace, making it a real pleasure to be part of. Together with a superb route taking in a few tracks with a good surface, this stands out for me as one of the best Saturday moderates in the series so far - thanks Nick for making it a great experience!

Report:
A fantastic hot and sunny afternoon. The majority of us set off from Grove, quickly reaching the cycle path that took us to Charlton village. Little legs managed perfectly up the hill into Charlton village (and put some of us adults to shame!)

We negotiated the roundabout at the Lord Nelson very successfully where we met up with the rest of the group at the bottom of the allotments.

We took the path through to West Lockinge, cut through the car park and then on into Ardington, over the grass and up the hill to the Stones where the picnics were tucked into and we met Kevin, Tom and Yu.

After a rest/explore/snooze/bike repairs from random tube bursts(!)we headed back to Grove the way we had come, saying goodbye to Henry, Ella, Faye, Chris, Andi and Caroline at the bottom of the allotments.

A special well done to Ella who has only been without stabilisers for a few weeks and a welcome to all of you on your first CTC ride - let's hope we see you on a few more.

A total of 6.5 miles from Grove.

Matt, Pat and I self helped our way out, Jon and Amanda with Graham Baxter Sporting Tours. Without doubt the hardest mental and physical thing I have ever done. Apparently there was some beautiful Picardy countryside, I spent a lot of time staring at the cobbles. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed it in the end and the bike survived with only a few stone chips. Riding into Roubaix Velodrome in the shadow of cycling giants is still a bit choking but I had enough for what passes in my book as a sprint finish. Somehow the official photo makes me look like a tired bloke hanging in for dear life. Surely not? Thanks to Matt and Pat for the company and Graham Hudson our driver who made the whole thing a lot easier. Hmm what next?

Report:
Unfortunately the van to take us to Avebury was not available and an alternative arrangement was used. Only 3 riders set off from Overton Hill at 12:30 and found the going generally quite good for the Ridgeway with very little mud. The section arround Liddington Castle was however deeply rutted with an overgrown section making progress difficult. After a pint at the Shepherds Rest (Fox Hill) the trio continued on very good paths arriving in Wantage at 17:30

The ride started of wet which keep a lot of people away. However Brian, Edith and Mavis had a lovely ride out to Faringdon and step farm the bacon butties were great and we met a lot of local cyclist. We rode on tracks not ussually open to the pubic and discovered places we didn't know exsisted. We rode to the wind farm and helped to make an entry in the record books and found out how we could make our own contribution to saving the planet and geting cheaper fuel bills. It was alovely day dispite the weather.

The fast ride followed the standard course and made good pace, with everyone having a turn doing the work. Of note, we had 4 mountain bike riders, who, by and large, kept up well. No real incident other than 1 loss (well done Clive, I can't believe how long you stayed with us - and great to see you again at the end!), and a "wobbly front end". The ride statistics are at http://connect.garmin.com/activity/244927.

Most impressive was that over the two rides tonight, we had 30 riders out - Steve S reckons this is a record for our Tuesday rides!

Please note tea stop close to rides end. There will however be ample opportunities to pause for refreshments along the route, but please ensure you carry sufficient water for the journey.

Headed out in glorious June sunshine, with a strong(ish)westerly breeze for much of the outward stretch to Longcot. Pausing for a brief refreshment break with fabulous clear views across to White Horse hill,we continued on through Woolstone, pushed along by the breeze to Uffington village fete, enjoying a very pleasant half hour watching the Morris dance team perform, and sampling the tea and scones which were looking a little depleted by the time we arrived on the scene. Steve Q did however manage to secure the last cream scone, which looked very nice indeed!....

Set off on the homeward leg at a relaxed "breeze assisted" pace, arriving at the Old Mill Hall for 4.30PM. Thanks everyone for a lovely afternoons cycling!
