Report:
25 riders gathered in the Spring sunshine for this year's Back-on-yer-Bike ride. We were pleased to welcome newcomers Norman, Caroline, Dave, Callum and Robyn and to welcome back Barry, Peter (B), Norman (T)and in particular Eve with her niece Katie.
There was a keen breeze from the west, however, so we soon found ourselves into a headwind as we climbed gently up to the Denchworth road bridge. Despite this, the group stayed pretty much together until Denchworth. Here Ginny offered to lead a "slower" group with Eve while I continued with the main group (and all of our newcomers) to West Hanney (where the slow group promptly overtook us!).
The group spread out more as we continued. Unfortunately, just after turning off Winter Lane (towards Lyford) Robyn hit a deep pothole (and by all accounts, did well to stay on) but was somewhat shaken. After giving her some time to recover (while Brian put some extra air into her tyres), we all carried on to Charney Bassett. As Robyn was still a bit shaken, Caroline, Dave and family decided to cut the ride short and head directly back to Grove (but with the intention of joining us again on a Tuesday evening). The rest of us continued into the wind to Gainfield and on to Stanford. Then at last we had the breeze on our backs for the ride back to Grove along Park Lane and past Asti Stud.
Back at 4:25; a handful were unable to resist the offer of tea and cakes back at mine...

Report:
The heavy showers during the day must have put some people off, as there was only 8 of us, for the first evening ride for the season, however the weather stayed dry and the sun even tried to come out! We opted for a fairly gentle ride around the vale, heading out through Denchworth, towards goosey, then through Charney before turning to do a bit of a loop coming back through Lyford, and of course Denchworth - arrive back at Grove having done 13 miles about 7:45 still light (so prehaps we might go a bit further next week!)

21 cyclists set off from the square heading towards Wantage on the cycle track and through the Harwell Estate to the Lord Nelson. We then headed up the hill and through the track to Ardington. The group split into two groups at this piont with Stephen Q leading the faster group off in the direction of the Hendreds, through featherbed lane and on into Steveton and back to Grove via Cowlane and Hanney. Edith led the other group at a more sedately speed round to Ginge then taking the sharp left turning back into Ardington and climbing the hill to the A417 and down through Lains Barn back to Grove. It was nice to see Jane, Steph, Diane and Nigel back out with us.

May Bank Holiday at St Agnes, Cornwall
Leader:
Pat Hurt
Start Time:
TBC
Start Location:
Description:
Pat will be in St Agnes, Cornwall 30/04 for a 200k Audax (actually, from 28/04...) - there is also a 100k and 50k on the same day.

Pat has kindly offered to make this into a Section (or DA) weekend, so if you're interested in going let him know!

St Agenes is on the North Cornish coast, approx. 7 miles NW of Truro,
thus reachable by road and rail service. It appears to be awash with
B&B and campsites, and has Perranporth YHA about 1.5 miles away.
(I have booked into the hostel - at the time of booking (5/1) the hostel was empty, but it only holds 24 in total so could soon fill up, so early booking recommended! - Jan)

Being a Bank Holiday, firm provisional interest (from attendees) will
be required by no later than end of Feb, to start searching for
accomodation.
