RIDE CANCELLED - Cancelled due to unfriendly weather forecast - Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. Sociable rides from 24km-40 km (15-25 miles) at a pace of 16-19km (10-12 miles) per hour. Coffee at Stanford Coffee Shop, route will be posted when I have worked one out!
Long term weather forecast is distinctly dodgy with rain and wind gusts into the 50s if the BBC is to believed.
Please watch this space, I will make a decision on Wednesday as to whether to run a short ride or just throw in the towel.
UPDATE Wednesday: looking pretty dodgy tomorrow and nobody has booked in...I wonder why!

Weather:

Report:
So good to wake up to sunshine and be able to ride with friends. We met at Old Mill Hall at the very respectable time of 10 am for our 2* Sunday shorty. Great to see LeeAnn, Susie and Roger Turnbell out, and we headed off full of optimism in spite of the head wind. As we approached Letcombe Regis there was a rather strange crunching sound as poor Susie rode over some disguarded metal which ruined her chain and unfortunately cut her ride short. Having established that there was no quick fix, after some discussion, Roger returned to collect the car and Pick Susie up and we continued our planned route. So 7 became 5 and we progressed through Letcombe Regis coming across Jane and Yvonne who were having a minor technical with gears, so we stopped to check they were ok and they decided to join the ride. Back up to 7 we rode up Holborn Hill and on to Hackpen. At this point I was the weakest link and was grateful for a breather at the top! Roger Postebechild, on a mission with an appointment departed at this point heading back via Sparsholt. 7 had become 6 as we enjoyed the descent towards Lambourn before turning right towards Seven Barrows and on to Blowing Stone Hill. A steady descent to the crossroads was enjoyed by all and at the bottom we bid farewell to Jane and Yvonne who headed back towards Letcombe via Childrey. 6 became 4 until Kingston Lisle when Des returned home via Uffington having ridden out to the start, great job Des! David LeeAnn and myself completed the route via Baulking and Goosey when in Denchworth we bumped into Sarah and Jonathon Lewis so good to see them.): A very enjoyable mornings ride and so good to see so many riders out, surpassed only by the number of horses!

I took this ride on for JT as he was unable to lead.
The route was amended from the original, due to strategically placed floods making it untenable.
Knowing that the Denchworth Road from Hanney can flood, I scoped it out before the ride, the level was well down in the ditches.
Needless to say, things had changed by this morning and it was rather wet. Yours truly, shod in waterproof winter boots, was fine. Others, unfortunately, were subjected to soggy feet for the rest of the ride. Apologies!
There were a couple of requests for a ride at the easier end of the distance. Not only did I manage this (44km) but I also missed out the proposed climb of Fawler Hill!
The route itself was not so much planned, as happened. The cafe stop was changed to Stanford. We arrived at Stanford Church at 10.56 which all fitted in rather well for an alfresco observance of the Armistice Day two minutes silence.
I should perhaps have claimed that this was planned all along..............
Good to see Julie out for an all too rare appearance and Steve made it round on his dodgy knee. A result all round!
Further coffee was enjoyed back at Munchies by the majority of the riders.

4 intrepid riders venturing out on a wet and grey afternoon.

The heavy rain kept away (mostly) - but we still got wet because of the spray from the wet roads.

Unfortunately just as the rain was at its heaviest I got a puncture. Barry kindly did most of the repair (I understand he is getting a reputation at being the ride mechanic) using Jo's inner tube (my spare had a big hole in it despite being a recent purchase) and Des's CO2 canister. I think the next coffee round should be on me!

We then returned to Wantage incident free (even navigating a couple of big puddles).

Smiles all around despite it not being the best of conditions.

Despite the heavy rain forecast, we decided to go ahead anyway. We were very fortunate not to get rained on at all! We did a very simple ride up to Southmoor via Charney to Munch cafe. The cafe was very busy so we passed our seats to the 2* group who arrived after us - we had just about finished our drinks as they got to the cafe.

We returned down to Hanney and from there back to Grove. It was good to welcome Rob, a friend of Angie’s, for his first ride with us.

RIDE CANCELLED - New Forest Autumn Colours 3*
Leader:
Jo Little
Start Time:
9:00 am
Start Location:
Lyndhurst
Description:
Too much rain - the roads would be too dangerous. Ride cancelled.

Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. 80-100km (50-65 miles) all-day touring ride, lunch and possibly tea stop en route, at a riding pace of 18-22km/h (11-14mph).
Ride cancelled due to weather warning for area
THIS RIDE IS NOW FULL

I haven't cycled in the New Forest in November before but am hoping the autumn will provide us with some beautiful scenery, both on the heathland and in the forest. For those who have been on the New Forest weekend we will be travelling on some familiar roads but I am also trying out a new area.
We will meet at Boltons Bench Car Park, Beaulieu Road, Lyndhurst, SO43 7DA. The car parking is free and has proven safe so far.
We will cycle through Beaulieu before heading to Sway for a cafe/breakfast stop at The Forest Deli. This is quite early at 17 miles but should be welcome after the early start.
We then try the new section through some villages before approaching Burley from the west. Here we will have a lunch break at The Old Farmhouse (38 miles). The ride then heads back onto familiar roads with our main climb up Bolderwood Drive (not too steep but quite long) before heading back into Lyndhurst.
The ride is 50 miles which hopefully means we will be back to Wantage by 5ish.
I am limiting the ride to 12 people and we will split into two groups if it proves necessary.

Little rain but strong south westerly winds predicted for Sunday plus the roads will still be wet and dirty from all the rain (I’m really selling this!), therefore a relatively local route seeking to minimise riding directly south west. 86km, less than 1 hilly with a stop in Lambourn or Shrivenham depending on how the group feels.

A most enjoyable ride with no problems for riders or machines (although Roger T discovered a puncture and didn't make it to the start)

We set off via Denchworth, Goosey, Baulking and Fernham, then up Ringdale and across the A420 to Faringdon. The cafe wasn't busy so we took the seats in the front in the sun. After a long discussion about vintage pop songs and artists, we left to head home via Thrupp, Littleworth, Hatford Warren, Gainfield, Charney and Denchworth.

A good ride with good company. The weather was good and most of the standing water had gone. The only problem was some road repairs by Thrupp where the road was blocked by trucks repairing the road. Can't complain as we squeezed through leaving a lorry and car waiting...
