Report:
This is a fantastic idea - nice on Kevin!

Well done to the pioneers this evening - we certainly sweated copiously as we went through a programme of cadence and resistance pyramids, single leg exercises and a 10 minute "pretty hard with a sprint for the last 30 seconds".

Henk and David B turned up later to "see what it's all about", just as the team were stretching legs after the session.

If you fancy a go to see what it's all about, come along next week - you can go at the pace that you're comfortable with, no-one gets left behind!

Roll on next week.

Weather - cloudy, mild.

A fast flat run out to Lechlade garden centre punctuated only by Amanda's blow out and a long wait for a car to activate the traffic lights on Tadpole Bridge.

Slightly more leisurely on the hilly route back via Buscot, Coleshill, the Coxwells and Fernham. Back in Grove at 4:40 after 40 miles.

Circuit of Cirencester
Leader:
Chris Walters
Start Time:
9:30 am
Start Location:
Cerney Wick (just off A417 between Swindon and Cir
Description:
69km at a moderate pace doing a flat(ish) clockwise circuit of Cirencester, taking in Kemble, Daglingworth, Barnsley, Bibury, Fairford and Latton. No planned stops, but could be persuaded en route :-) There's a really nice visitor centre / cafe at the start/finish, together with a large Cotswold Outdoor shop. Probably have coffee before the start (get there early if you want a coffee) and a cake afterwards.

You must let me know if you plan to come along - if no-one calls me, the ride won't happen!

Report:
The ride went as planned - a good quick start as a warm up as far as Kemble, where the roads become a little more "undulating" and navigation more of a challenge. Fantastic Cotswold villages at Winson, Ablington and Bibury led us back through the mist towards Fairford, where Sorrel suffered a puncture. We had a quick run back to Cerney Wick from Fairford - total distance 72.5km, average speed 23.5km/h, lunch stop for the leisurely at the end.

Report:
The crisp days of the weekend continued, leading to plumes of vapour trails as the toil of Chain Hill took place; Newbury RC seemed to be having an easier time coming the other way.

Met with Chris just ovet the brow, and headed down through Brightwalton, on lanes that were in serious need of some TLC - it would have been smoother in some places to go off-road.

Continued down and down to Boxford, doglegged to Welford, then took the long drag & steep kicker through Wickham. Cut through Winding Wood to Leverton, then back over the ridges to drop down to Upper Lambourn.

The Malt had only had its restaurant open for a week, and while the qaulity was OK, the service could do with speeding up significantly; it's nice, but don't expect to get a quick snack and run...Richard was distraight that we wouldn't let him have a puddin'

We eventually made back onto the ride, were Neil W promptly had a visitation from the faires on leaving the car park; he voluntered us on, and would race to catch up, so we ambled up, over & down to Ashbury, where he caught up.

Right along the spring line, and it was time for people to start peeling off; Jan, Des & Derek went seperate ways at Compton Beauchamp, while Rex & Thresa peeled into home as we passed through Longcot.

After the hills, the flattish route back through Fernham, Baulking & Denchworth was quickly covered, arriving back in Wantage around 4:30.

83Km done.

Report:
Saturday easy ride around the vale to Faringdon and back to Hanney for tea. They say the cake was good! 30 miles at just over 10 mph, we got lucky with the weather and two great new riders made our day. Gillian Jacobs from Faringdon who has just started biking and also Robert Ward. Despite our ride being far harder than Gillian's previous experience she did not give up. If she continues to make this much effort she will be making mince meat of us in 12 months time!! Haven't we been here before with Jo? Robert Ward from Didcot a friend of Matt Chambers (he of PBP fame) has been riding to work a bit and also extended his personal best distance with a 50+ ride including riding from and to the start. Well well done to both and thanks for everyone for coming. Ha! 13 not so unlucky after all. Happy spokes.
