38miles

We started out with 7. This included 1 new rider who found quickly that she could not keep up with an intermediate ride and went back. Weather started out reasonably dry as we made our way against the wind towards the North East. However it rained during the second half of the ride & we were very glad to reach the cafe.

Good to see Sorrel's friend Rob join us again as a visitor - see you next year Rob?

The puncture count was two, and the route map and charts are here: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/1237567.

Report:
CTC Oxfordshire lives on. A modest (but quorate) turnout included representatives from all 4 Sections (as were) plus a number of non-regular riding members. CTC Councillor for the South East, Barry Jordan, came along to answer our questions.

John Holding agreed to fill the role of Secretary, James - Chair, Helen - Membership Secretary and Peter H (in absentia) - Treasurer.

Phil Wray (of the Midweek members Group) kindly volunteered to act as Welfare Officer for the whole of Oxfordshire.

John proposed a new way of running the Oxfordshire committee using a Google group to reduce the number of committee meetings and car miles.

Proposals for next year include:

1) 85th Anniversary rides in May
2) Promoting rides run by different member groups across the Area to improve integration
3) Possible weekend away...

Eve and Steve Q stood down as Secretary and Treasurer after 5 years in their posts. Steve S proposed a vote of thanks in appreciation of all their work for the club over the last 5 years.

Report:
A fine morning broke into a mizzly afternoon unfortunately. Lunch at the Red Lion at Islip was good value at 7.50 for two courses. Limited choices (four different roasts)and not for the veggies. Otmoor was definitely in wetland mode. A rolling 9 decreasing in numbers through the afternoon had a pleasant ride. Jan joined us for a while at the start slipping off to do college work, Barry joined us for lunch. Kev and Wen slid off after lunch saving a whole 5 miles and but for Rex puncturing we'd have caught them up as they got home 15 minutes before me. Good to see Kev,Wen and Mavis out on a Sunday again. Not so good to find the Warner wet ones are back.

Easy-rider Saturday Ride from Grove
Leader:
Chris Walters
Start Time:
1:00 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:
We'll be doing the route of the Tuesday evening "Fast and Furious" - a nice flat route out to Watchfield, and back to Grove for tea at the Cornerstone cafe - 46km or just shy of 30 miles. We'll not be doing a "fast and furious" pace though, just one that everyone is comfortable with! The route is here: http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=6038.

Lights may be required for the journey back from the tea stop if it's a dingy day!

Report:
The signs were good - a couple of phone calls on the Saturday morning from prospective new riders - maybe even in spite of the cold, we may get a few riders out? In the event, we had 17 riders, a great mix of old-timers and newcomers. Welcomes to Alex, Mila, David and Michael!

A very uneventful ride into a headwind to Watchfield, with a very visible weather front looking very ominous from the west, but fortunately it stayed in the west for the duration of the ride. Kevin and Tom joined us just after the A417 on the way to Baulking.

For the first part of the ride we kept together very well, only to be broken around Fernham, requiring a bit of a chase to rein everyone in!

Then we had the chase to the tea stop at the Cornerstone in Grove, sending out an advance party to stake a claim to our seats before it closed and myself and Steve helping the stragglers home. A very welcome cuppa followed!

Big thanks must go to the more experienced members who "buddied up" with the newcomers.

Overall a mellow ride in nice conditions.

The ride record is here: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/1400668.
