The last Tuesday Ride for this year was a fast 16 miles out to Southmoor via Charrney Bassett and back via West Hanney. We were joined by the fit cyclists who had been in training in France for a week Brian and I could not keep up. As it was the last Tuesday ride a majority of the group retired to the Bay Tree for a drink after the ride.

Report:
15 riders for the first of our Saturday afternoon off-road rides including newcomers Lucia and Steve (another Steve B!) on a very pleasant afternoon. This was a very enjoyable 30 mile ride exploring the bridleways of the Vale, most of which were completely new to many of us.
From Westcot we took the Lane and then bridleway across to the Kingston Lisle road. This was very uneven in places but rumour has it that Nick managed to cycle most of it. The next track, towards Baulking, was easier but both Peter and Steve suffered punctures. This gave the rest of us an opportunity to sample the local blackberries. From Fernham we headed off-road towards Bowling Green Farm on the A417. This stretch had an interesting technical dip and climb around a boggy area, where somehow Alan managed to wrap his chain around the bottom bracket of his brand new ATB. Further on the bridleway was not properly signed and we took a wrong turning through a gate; after cycling along the edge of a newly harrowed field, we ended up on a private drive. The farmer's wife kindly informed the stragglers of our mistake.
From the A417, there was a lovely stretch across Faringdon golf course via the Hideaway to the Buckland road, with just enough mud to live up to the publicity! By which stage we were ready for our tea and donuts at the Little chef. The return route took us back through Pusey, Charney Bassett and West Hanney. A riders revolt thwarted Pat in his attempt to take us down Cow lane, so we returned via the footpath from W. Hanney instead.

Report:
The last ride of the Section year saw 6 set off from Grove in gathering gloom for moderately fast ride to the Trout via Charney bassett, Longworth, Hinton Waldrist and Gainfield. It was just about dark by the time we reached the bridleway between Longworth manor and H-W. Meanwhile, Steve B. having given us a 20 minute start took the road route and overtook us. he'd already downed his first pint before the rest of us piled in at 8pm. Kev, Dita and Piet joined us for a meal/drink. John and a mud-splattered Amanda arrived at 9, just too late for food. We enjoyed a surprisingly mild night on the way back.
