We hugged Wantage a bit tonight due to potential rain which threatened the whole time. Meandered passed Lains Barn, circled Ardington and up the hill to Betterton, through Wantage and some of us came home via Letcome Bassett, Childrey, East Challow, along the canal and Grove.

Welcome to Gareth Smith, Val's husband, who came out with us for the first time.

After leaving Jane group my select group headed out of Letcombe Regis and up the hill to East Challow where we did a left turn back towards childrey, A right turn down silver lane to West Challow, left towards Farringdon, right to Denchworth and right back into Grove we travelled 17 miles and enjoyed a lovely view of the vale from the top of silver lane.

Report:
We were delighted to have Kevin F and Laurent join us fresh from their End to End successfully completed on Friday afternoon. Eight riders faced a fairly strong headwind up to Lambourn, where we met up with Mavis, Lou and Sue for the rest of the ride to Ashdown House. Post Lambourn the tandem broke down (terminally until a spare part - some essential metal bit or other - is purchased) and Steve B and Pat returned to Lambourn to collect another couple of bike from Pat's collection. This meant that they were unable to tour the house and go up on the roof unlike the rest of us lucky ones! Robert appeared as is his way and joined us for the tour and picnic.

Sat on some prehistoric stones for tea, had a good chat, drank Laurent's wine, Ron killed eight flies(!) and we went home via Ashbury and Uffington. A very pleasant ride.

A Bit of Rough - Inaugural Ride
Leader:
Pat Hurt
Start Time:
1:00 pm
Start Location:
WMP
Description:
Off-road riding starts here! All MTBers welcome. This will be an introductory ride of 20-25 miles to start the mud flying! Come along and let us know what sort of off-road rides you want.
Riders:
Alvaro Rey
Chris Mallinson
Pat Hurt
Richard Dunbabin
Richard Jenkinson
Steve Swanton
Riders = 6
Report:
6 inaugural souls ventured out through a 50/50 mixture of on-road, and off-road track, urban jungle and mud bath (where surprisingly the full suspension MTB's suffered worst of all - it was the wrong kind of mud! - SWS), covering just under 30 miles.
Sauntering around to Denchworth, we then tracked to West Hanney, around the back of W. Hanney to the A420, up & across the North of Cow Common to Drayton, down through Didcot to the Didcot-Upton rail line, and then across tracks to Chilton for a well deserved tea-break. The return along the Ridgeway gave people a chance to wash the mud off by storming through some deep puddles ("It only came up to the duck's bum!"), before tanking back down hillside tracks into Wantage.
Pat
How's this for a recommendation from first-time rider Richard:
"It really was a great day out for me today - first time ever on a MB and it was great !! Many thanks"

18 on a beautiful evening, including newcomer Phil who was cycling to the shops on his replica Pederson cycle and ended up cycling 24 miles with a select "middle group".
We all headed out in the same direction,Denchworth,Lyford, Charney Bassett,Gainsfield, Hatford, Shellingford. Just before shellingford A few of the riders were starting to get A little bit tired of the pace. It was decided to split into two groups. Brian to led the fast group and they would climb an extra Hill out of Uffington and along the main road to silver lane and back to grove via West Challow and Denchworth. There was some confusion as to who was in Brian group hence the select group in the middle.Edith small group continued the planned route thruogh Shellingford, Uffington station, Bualking. Goosey, Denchworth and back to Grove. We admired the sunset and glimpsed four air balloons it was a lovely evening.
