West Oxon Regular Saturday Afternoon Ride
Leader:
Steve Swanton
Start Time:

Start Location:

Description:
Meet St. Mary's Church Green, Witney for a ride to The Old Mill Coffee House, Chipping Norton for tea and back (35 miles-ish).

Riders = 0
Report:
11 riders, mostly from Wantage, including newcomer Matthew from Didcot on a sunny but breezy day. It was a steady climb from Witney out via Leafield and alas mostly into the wind. Even the descent to Shipton was hard work, but there were lovely views over the Evenlode valley. We kept to the narrow lanes via Lineham and Sarsden before a final climb up to Churchill and into Chippy.
Angela decided she'd had enough having struggled into the wind and managed to hitch a lift back to Witney from friends while Vera was waiting at the cafe having made her own way from home. so numbers stayed at 11 for fantastic wind-assisted return via Dean, Spelsbury, Charlbury, fawler and North Leigh.
A lumpy 32 miles.

Seventeen riders followed Jan along the usual route to Denchworth, where we turned left and on to Charney Bassett. At this point, six riders led by Kevin rode extra distance on a loop towards Southmoor and then met up with us on the road to West Hanney. We arrived back in Grove just as the light was fading and everyone appeared to have had a very good and enjoyable ride. I acted as sweep and had an easy time of it as everyone kept up well. 22 kms covered.

Report:
We started the ride with fine drizzle and expecting to get wet. However we set off through Grove across the airfield and the weather improved. we headed out to Letcmbe Bassett climbing a few hills back down into Childrey and up through the track to Challow and on through the estate at Wantage and back into Grove we almost finished the ride without mishap, but unfortunantly one rider got a puncture just before we finshed. The ride was enjoyed by all without a wet shirt.

Report:
This week we headed out through Goosey, the group split just before Baulking with Kev taking the more energetic ones a slightly longer route via Uffington up Fawler Hill, before rejoining the rest who had climbed Common Hill to get to Kingston Lisle. We then went through Westcot and Sparsholt before dropping down to the A417, it was only as we were peddling along the A417 that I suddenly remembered that the road a planned to take to Denchworth was closed - but we didn't let that deter us!The new bridge they've built looks very impressive - we just about got back to grove before the rain started - perfect timing - except for those who still needed to cycle home - I got soaked - but had an enjoyable ride!
