Report:
At last. Sunshine! A glorious day for the start of the Jubilee holiday and our regular Saturday ride. Due to holidays and other commitments we numbered only 10, so just one ride, investigating NCN route 5 en route to the Kings Arms at Sandford Lock for tea (or rather beer, soft drinks and crisps). Our only substantial hill of the day was Lains Barn and then it was on through the Springline villages to East Hendred. At Steventon we investigated the footpath to Milton beside the railway line, which Sustrans are to develop as a cycle path. Some clearance of the ground had already taken place but it is still somewhat lumpy. Alas one large muddy puddle had to be negotiated. Jan

National cycle week ride 13 rider setout for a delightful ride through the tunnel (Fyfield?) and over the bridge. We started together however a few preferred to take a shorter route and Brian lead them back via Southmoor and Charney Bassett to Grove about sixteen miles. The faster group completed the route of 22 miles under the tunnel and over the bridge.

Report:
It was a fine evening as only three of us set off from Grove in glorious sunshine. The initial plan was to ride up Hackpen Hill first, but following popular demand for keeping it nice 'n easy (and despite Kevin having left the fixed home and brought the Thorn; he must have guessed there should be some few lumps!) the route saw some minor modifications and we eventually went straight to The Trout at Tadpole Bridge through Denchworth, Charney Bassett and Buckland.
Logically, we arrived half an hour before other section's riders, as you would expect from Wantage riders: last on the road maybe, but always first at the pub!
We were soon joined by Ed, whom we had apparently missed at the start for some few seconds, then by Des and Derek. And eventually other section's riders turned up as well, making of the gathering a well-attended affair.
After initial fears of overload in the kitchen, all riders who wanted to eat eventually got their food, while others took great care of maintaining the hydration level well above the safety limit - this contributing to animated cycling discussions where hills got longer and steeper as the night went on.
Kevin left early, soon followed by Richard, meaning that the return ride was a short one to Stanford-in-the-Vale together with Ed, James and Des - both latter riders having to go somewhat further.

Report:
We attempted to repeat the Sport (44Km) category ride of the recent Letcombe Evans Trailride series. The week before we had done the expert (56K), which was absolutely awful due to the deep mud on much of the course.

Anyway, we cycled to Smiths Hill, via Letcombe Regis and then went along The Ridgeway, down a cheeky descent to Lands End and immediately up to The Ridgeway again, before crossing over to Betterton. From there we headed along to Harwell and rejoined The Ridgeway and crossed to West Ilsley. So far much of the mud had dried out, which we took as a good sign.

A fast section along the road to towards Farnborough, taking a track through the bluebell woods, which realised our fears of mud. At this point we decided to chicken out and head back to Lands End and over The Ridgeway (again) through East Ginge and back to Wantage.

On a very pleasant sunny afternoon, 46 participated in the cycle treasure hunt including a number of families from the Wantage area. Good to see Diane and Nigel out on their bikes at last. 25 riders chose the shorter 6 mile course and 21 the longer one of 17 miles.
Overall winners of the longer course were teenagers Henry & Daniel with a maximum 64 points out of 64 with Lou Rose in second with 62. 3 groups on the short course scored maximum points: Ellen & Stephen Lee, the Jackson family from Grove and the Berry family from Witney. Congratulations to all. For those attending, prizes will be awarded at the DA BBQ on 6 July.
Everyone said how much they enjoyed it, so a definite success. In all we raised over
