Report:Glorious sunny day for the last Section event of 2001. Numbers depleted with the proximity of Christmas, but good to have Roger with us getting some pre-festive exercise. We stayed 'low' today, heading East to Ardington then dropping into the Vale via Ardington Wick Farm. The farm track into the Vale was firm with a surface film of mud and frozen puddles, which made a distionctive cracking sound as they were broken under-wheel. From the farm track, a bridleway followed the edges of series of fields - hard going - before we eventually emerged by Steventon Church. We headed up the hill via a bridleway to the Q-gardens shop at the Featherbed Lane junction. (From the trig point at the top there was a wondeful view over the Vale). Alas, the tea shop was closed, so it was up the road to Chilton Garden Centre for refreshment. Returning by the bridleway behind Harwell Reactor Site and the Ginge Farm track, we descened to the Icknield Way and Ginge Brook. Nick was skilful enough to cycle down the precipitous slope to the bridge. Jan did half of it and the rest of us walked. We just got back to Wantage at dusk. Excellent timing. Thanks Pat.
