All 18 riders kept to the same route, through Wantage, Betterton, Steventon and back through the Hanneys to Grove. Weather extremely hot for 18 miles. Well done Steve (Smith) and Val for going all the way. There were four Steve's on this ride - very confusing. Bad luck for Steve Swanton who unfortunately got a puncture and had to go home. Welcome to Herve Morvan who is new to this area.

Thunder and Lightning Part II.

Pleasant ride with 18 riders over to Cogges Farm in Witney for tea. Skies opened for return leg with thunder and lightening overhead and torrential rain. New rider, Chris Hooker, said we were all mad and wasn't it great!

Pat rode the newly acquired (6-legged) tandem which even he found a bit of a struggle up-hill; perhaps he needs reminding a tandem's meant for two and not a solo challenge! This bike had only been in our group's possession for less than 6 hours and found its way into my garage (already full of bicyles)!!

Report:
This was the first of our DA rides to places of historic or natural interest, one of the recommendations that came out of our DA members survey last year. Rousham Park meets both categories with landscaped pleasure gardens and house enlarged by William Kent (1685-1748), who later went on to design Horse Guards Parade. The gardens, which run down to the river Cherwell, are one of the few of their era to have escaped alteration. Particularly interesting was the statuary, unusually still in place (and hence the exclusion of children and dogs). The herbaceous borders of the walled garden were highly colourful and the roses were at their peak.
I decided to start the ride from Oxford and was surprised to see Steve and Jane appear in the nick of time as well. 12 of us set out from Broad Street and we followed the Woodstock road all the way to Woodstock using the cycle path from the A34 junction. Something of a contrast to cycling from Grove. Harriet

A good turn out with 18 riders on a sunny but breezy evening. Longer ride went up Chain Hill, Brightwalton, Woolley Monument and back down Court Hill to Letcombe Regis - quite a hilly route of just over 17 miles. Edith took the slower group to Charney Bassett and Stanford.

It certainly was! Excellent fresh fruit salad too. Pat and Lou added their culinary skills as BBQ cooks as well. Thanks to all 4 of you for all your hard work.
We had an enjoyable evening with about 35 from all 3 sections, many cycling over (including laurent). The rain didn't amount to very much, fortunately. Kevin introduced the DA to tyre bursting, ten pumps each until the tyre goes bang! - it has to be said that the inflations achieved were somewhat disappointing...

We had an extremely good turn out this evening with 23 riders. Five riders accompanied Edith on the short ride which included newcomers John and Audrey on their new tandem. The rest joined Jane on the fast ride which included yet another tandem with Diane putting her trust in Steve S. Very nice to see Des from the Witney club joining a Tuesday ride for the first time although (along with the tandem) set a very fast pace.
