Report:
Somehow we managed to dodge the rain! 16 riders but only one ride this evening, at slowish moderate pace, to East Hendred and back.

We went out via Lains barn and Lockinge as far as Ginge. Although I gave folk the option of taking the road down to the A417 and meeting us by the church in East Hendred, everyone decided to follow me along the Ginge Farm track, which was dry if rough in places. The leader was relieved to see two front tearaways remembering to pull up by the church in EH following the lovely downhill into the village. While regrouping some drops of rain led to general donning of cags only for the rain to promptly stop.

New to most riders was the metalled footpath between the two Hendreds -ridden with instructions to dismount if we encountered any pedestrians, which we didn't. Then it was up the hill back to Ginge feeling very autumnal with yellowing trees, gusting breeze, dimming light and falling temperature.

We returned via Ardington and Wantage with riders gradually peeling offf home along the way. The streets of Grove were wet following a downpour but we missed it :-) .

I thoroughly enjoyed it - thanks to all. Sadly just one more Tuesday Evening ride left of the season.

Regular Moderate Ride
Leader:
Stephen Quartermain
Start Time:
1:00 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:
Regular Saturday afternoon ride of 60-70km with tea stop.

64km or 40 miles in "old money" route, heading North into the Thames Valley. The route will be as follows: Denchworth, Charney Basset, Longworth, Appleton, Eaton, Cumnor, Farmoor, Swinford, Sutton, Hardwick, Yelford, Aston, Bampton, Buckland, Charney Bassett and back to Grove via Denchworth.

A fairly flattish route with a nice downhill from Cumnor to Farmoor. Tea stop at either Aston Pottery or Bampton Coffee House depending on the weather - if nice we can sit outside at Aston.

Report:
Weather: Overcast, raining

The ride started off just after 1pm from Grove. Fairly low number of riders but the weather forecast was not particulary good. Ginny had phoned me earlier that day to say that she would meet up with ride part way along. The route headed north towards Southmoor and we crossed the A420 by using the footbridge off Beggars lane. The ride was relatively flat but according to Chris W's computer we gained reasonable height over the distance from Grove. We had a nice descent from Cumnor past the resevoir and then followed the B-road to Hardwick. We met up with Ginny were the B-road crosses the A415. There seemed to be some sort of time trial event going on here. So far the weather had been ok with no rain but it started to spit a bit as we came into Yelford and onwards to our coffee stop at Bampton. After coffee the weather had definitely taken a turn for the worse and we all had to don rainwear. The hill up to Buckland felt quite tough especially being so soon after a cafe stop. It continued to rain most of the way back and get a bit heavier as we came into Denchworth. We arrived back before my estimated time of 5pm. and me Philip at the finish on his new Brompton. All in all a good ride with the weather being better than expected.

69km at a moderate pace doing an undulating clockwise circuit of Cirencester, taking in Kemble, Daglingworth, Barnsley, Bibury, Fairford and Latton. No planned stops, but could be persuaded en route :-) There's a really nice visitor centre / cafe http://www.ukattraction.com/heart-of-england/cotswold-gateway-visitors-centre.htm at the start/finish, together with a large Cotswold Outdoor shop. Probably have coffee before the start (get there early if you want a coffee) and a cake afterwards.

A fantastic day dawned with hardly a breeze. Following the route linked to below, we had a great morning - the key events were: Henk stripping off, the grand inquisition into the contents of Davids pannier, a near miss in Kempsford involving gravel and a car driver busy on their phone, and the pedestrian paninis in the cafe at the end. If you weren't there, you missed a good 'un!

Only two riders out on what must have been one of the best cycling days of the year! Where were you all? Non-eventful ride. Distance 87km. We stopped for coffee in Wallingford - nice cafe opposite the entrance to Waitrose supermarket - and lunch at the Black Horse, Checkendon. NB only serves baguettes but Rob said the beer was good. Made good time and were back in Wantage c. 2.40 p.m.

Bike Blenheim Palace - volunteers wanted
Leader:
Start Time:
TBC
Start Location:
Blenheim Palace, Woodstock
Description:
This is not a club-organised event, but an opportunity for members to help out with marshalling at Bike Blenheim

We are looking for around 20 people to help marshall at the cycling event which is taking place on Sunday 28th September. They will need to be at Blenheim Palace by 6.30am in order to be in position for when the first races start. They will obviously have free entry to the event and will be given breakfast and lunch. Not only will they be able to watch the racing, it is likely that they will be finished by the early afternoon and so will have time to enjoy the rest of the day's events as well as having the oppotunity to cycle around the routes, therefore if they want to they are encouraged to bring their own bikes. If the early start is a problem but they are keen and would be available later on during the morning then we may still be able to use them so they should still get in touch.

If people are interested I need them to contact me on 01264 850900 or via email sue@pinnacleevents.co.uk by Friday 19th September.
