3* Saturday Half Day Ride 3*

Joy Arthur
Start Time:
9:15 am
Start Location:
OMH
Description:
Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. Half day ride (60-70km / 38-45 miles), with a tea stop, riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph).

A familiar Tuesday evening route to Boars Hill with an added cafe stop at Stanford (30 miles) before returning to Grove. Hopefully it will be clear enough to give us good views over Oxford.
On the shorter side for a half day ride at only 37 miles in total.

Report:
A very enjoyable ride following a route planned by Jo, thanks Jo. We crossed the A420 a number of times using various nifty paths and after conquering Boars Hill the grey clouds allowed a reasonable view of the city. There was quite a lot of standing water and inevitable pot holes but all bikes coped well. The coffee shop at Stanford was a great stop. A fun group to lead, I really enjoyed myself!

Heading south to hopefully minimise flooding problems, so a bit of climbing involved. However, we are keeping it as short as possible whilst still enjoying the Lambourn Valley and (importantly) Priscilla's Kitchen in East Garston.

Weather:
cloudy with light raincold
Report:
It was one of those days where you have to wait until you fling back the curtains to see what weather might present itself. In the event, it was damp and cold with a niggling northeasterly wind, but not dangerous, so the ride was on!

A nice group was mad enough to join me and we set off in the gloom. It got gloomier up on the Ridgeway as we conquered Hackpen Hill, but at least that gave Anke the chance to take moody photos. We had a good wind assisted run down to Lambourn and along the river valley to the always wonderful Priscilla's in East Garston. Those cakes...

A unanimous group decision was taken to extend the ride by a few miles to see the snowdrops at Welford Park and this was definitely well worth it. We then turned into the headwind for the slog up through Brightwalton and the swoop down Chain Hill and home. All of us definitely felt this one, but it was definitely worth it!

1* Saturday Half Day Ride - Snowdrop Special - rearranged to Sunday 1*
Leader:
Steve Swanton
Start Time:
10:30 am
Start Location:
OMH
Description:
After the rain on Saturday morning, the snowdrop ride has been rescheduled to Sunday with a slightly later start time of 10:30am from Old Mill Hall car park. It's forecast to be dry but cold so do wrap-up warm.

A special easy-paced ride to visit the best of our local snowdrops in the churchyards at the Letcombes, Childrey and Sparsholt. These displays just seem to be getting better every year and we will stop to explore and enjoy them. We'll have a refreshment stop at Cantorist Farm in Childrey along the way.

Please let me know by text if you are planning to come.

Our regular social and family ride on the third Saturday of the month, usually with a cafe stop. We cover 16-32km (10-20 miles) at a leisurely pace of 13-16km/h (8-10mph), tackling the occasional hill (nothing too long) and easy off-road track (conditions permitting).

Skirting north of Witney, using some quiet country lanes, before the cafe stop at Aston Pottery. The stop is at 34 miles, so don't forget to bring a small snack/energy bar if needed. It's a long time before a cafe stop, but I wanted to ensure we had somewhere warm inside to go.

It was a bit cold to start with but not as bad as predicted - and dry!
We were lucky enough to have quiet roads and considerate car drivers which added to the enjoyment. The villages looked great with snowdrops, daffodils and primroses to be spotted. The stop at Aston pottery was very welcome and warmed us up before the last few miles.
Thanks to everyone for being a great group to cycle with.

Foot is responding to treatment and Steve S will lead if I don't make it.
With apologies to last Sunday's 3 star riders, a more leisurely ride out to Aston Pottery for coffee and cakes. Out via Northmoor and Shifford, back via Bampton and Buckland Hill, which is the only climb of the day.

A very welcome window in some very dodgy weather made for a nice leisurely ride out to Aston Pottery. Buckland hill was the only hill of the day, taken at varying speeds, with James just leaving it too late for an analogue attack on Anke's serene digital progress up.......
Good to see some faces that have been less familiar of late, Brian (now a member). David and John.

A very good ride with good company. What a glorious day, but the breeze was very chilly. Headwind out, tailwind home (perfect). The roads were not too bad as long as you avoided the standing water (potholes below). The ride was a bit longer this week to make the most of the weather and also to try out the new crossing of the A420 at Fernham Road. Everyone agreed they had made a brilliant job of it.

Thanks to one and all for making it a very good ride.
