Well, despite my weakened state, we all made it round, even though I burned a few more electrons than would normally have been used on such a flat route.

The Betjeman Ride 1*
Leader:
John Tranter
Start Time:
2:00 pm
Start Location:
Betjeman Millennium Park, Wantage, OX12 9AB
Description:
In partnership with Wantage Town Council and the Trustees of the Betjeman Millennium Park in Wantage, this is a gentle beginners ride from the Park to Uffington, where John Betjeman lived during the 1930's. The ride is particularly suitable to invite friends and family to try out.

We leave the Park and cut across to Grove, then Denchworth, Goosey and Baulking to the parish church in Uffington, where delicious tea and cakes await. The average speed will be a very leisurely 10mph.

There are two options:
- 10 mile ride to Uffington Church for drinks and cakes. Get yourself collected from there.
- 20 mile ride to Uffington Church for drinks and cakes and then back to Wantage.

NB: in previous years we have found that the majority of riders manage the 20 mile route fine even if they have not done a long ride before.

Leader:
Nick Portsmouth
Start Time:
2:00 pm
Start Location:
Grubbs Wood Cottage, RG20 7HL
Description:
A slightly hillier than usual 1* ride which gives riders a chance to visit villages South of the Ridgeway. It'll be taken at a leisurely pace with no rush and plenty of time to take in our wonderful surroundings.
The ride starts and finishes at a member's house, where the owner has kindly offered to provide the post-ride refreshments.
The start and finish of the ride are on a non-tarmacked road and it'll follow a clockwise route visiting the villages of Brightwalton, Farnborough and Peasmore with a short detour to see a CTC-winged wheel. A total distance of about 17 miles.

Our regular social and family ride on the third Saturday of the month, usually with a cafe stop. We cover 16-32km (10-20 miles) at a leisurely pace of 13-16km/h (8-10mph), tackling the occasional hill (nothing too long) and easy off-road track (conditions permitting). Please let the ride leader know if you are planning to come.
